Scott Boras represents everybody, I think.
But thanks to Matthews’ solid season — 17 home runs, 50 RBIs, .260 batting average — in limited playing time last season, the LeCroys could be spending most of 2006 in Japan. Tokyo or Fukuoka? “Yeah, I’d consider it,’’ LeCroy said. “It might be a difficult situation.’’... It probably won’t come to that for the free agent. Odds are the slugging right-handed hitter will find a home as a designated hitter in the American League. If not, he could go to the National League as a pinch-hitter and part-time first baseman and catcher.
...
The Twins did him a favor by releasing him long before this month’s deadline. He got extra time to weigh potential options with agent Scott Boras. LeCroy said having Boras, a “super agent’’ known as a hard-ball negotiator, won’t make it harder to find a team. “It’s all about what the market is,’’ LeCroy said. “There’s not going to be a lot of bickering or arguing.’’

Well, he could do that in April and the first half of May. Once Dusty or whomever saw him in the field, it would be PH only.
The Bill James book this year has a section on baserunning, and Lecroy is used as an example of one extreme of the spectrum--guess which one.
No, not really. He would would be the worst defensive catcher in the league, and I suspect it would take enough of a toll on his hitting that he'd be pretty much worthless overall. And he's had enough health problems that he might not even be able to squat half the time back there. He's a lefty masher that can catch once in a while and play first poorly (but not as poorly as catcher). He's a good pinch hitter or bench player. If nothing else, I'd think he'll get a minor league contract and spend part of the year in the majors as a injury fill in. Someone like the White Sox would do well to have him around if/when Thome's body falls apart. The Yankees wouldn't be bad either.
I think LeCroy has the longest run of PAs ever without a stolen base. That should answer #6, if there was any doubt.
And by all accounts he is a wonderful human being. I hope he gets a chance somewhere. But I don't see all that many teams that would be a good fit for him, and there are other players out there that fit those spots about as well.
They've been jacking around with utility infielders (Merloni, Jose Hernandez) at first against LHP for years now. They traded for (and DFA'd) Josh Phelps. LeCroy at a reasonable price seems like a perfect fit if Garko isn't going to be the guy at first.
All you folks who wish your home team could get their hands on him? You're wrong.
What I'd really like is for Ryan Garko to win the job.
And he was one of their best offensive players despite not providing any value at all against RHP. The Twins offensive struggles should be blamed upon... Ullger, Gardy, LNP, LRod, Tiffee, Michael Ryan, Castro, Bartlett, Rivas, Morneau, Stewart, Jones, Hunter, Tom Kelly, and pretty much everybody not named Joe Mauer before getting to LeCroy on that list. He performed exactly the way one would expect, it was everybody else who either was worse than expected or playing more than they should have.
