Lamest rip...since The Rip Chords ripped off THE Rip Chords!
The Yankees bats made little noise Sunday. Andy Pettitte, however, certainly pumped up the volume afterward.
With the Yankees seemingly already in All-Star break mode during Sunday’s 4-1 loss to the Blue Jays, Pettitte called out his team, and issued a challenge for the second half.
“If we want to make the playoffs, we have to be better,” said Pettitte, who took the loss Sunday. “We stink right now for the most part. As a team, we’ve kind of stunk it up here lately, so we need to play better.”
..."We’ve got to find a way to put it all together for an extended period of time with our pitching and our hitting combined,” Pettitte said. “It seems like right now, we’re feast or famine.”

Perhaps you've forgotten Tom Glavine, and the 5" outside called strikes.
Actually, it's not when you consider what they're trotting out these days with Matsui and Damon out. They're bottom 5 look awful statwise.
The thought process for the batter was probably along the lines of "Okay, the last 15 pitches have been balls. This next one HAS to be a strike. I'm going to take a big rip at it. Dammit! Okay, the last 16 pitches have been balls...."
At this point, the most useful one is probably Gardner, simply because it takes an extra pitch or so per AB to get him out. Yesterday, they had three guys with sub .300 OBPs (Gardner, Cano, Betemit, two at corner positions!) starting. A fourth starter (Melky!), finished the day at .301.
Yanks are hitting .238/.314/.342 in July.
