AP: Blanton tossed after shoving Ichiro, bench-clearing incident

Athletics starter Joe Blanton was ejected in the seventh inning of Oakland’s game against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday after shoving Ichiro Suzuki, clearing both benches.

After Raul Ibanez hit a bases-clearing double, the relay throw from shortstop Bobby Crosby got by A’s catcher Jason Kendall. As Blanton tried to retrieve the ball near the Seattle dugout, he shoved Suzuki, who scored on the play.

Mariners outfielder Jason Ellison, the closest player to the incident, apparently took exception and went after Blanton, and the dugouts cleared.

Both sides remained heated for several minutes, with Blanton exchanging words with Seattle pitchers Miguel Batista—the only other player who was ejected—and Felix Hernandez.

Blanton vs. Ichiro?  That’s a fat guy/skinny guy mismatch, isn’t it?

Ichiro is waiting to do a Chan Ho Park on Blanton as his revenge.

I was surprised that Ellison wasn't ejected from the game along with Blanton - Dave Niehaus made similar remarks an inning later when Ellison came up to bat and got another hit - though I suppose he was allowed to stay because he didn't actually make any physical contact with Blanton.

BTW, can I repeat how much I love Niehaus' baseball announcing voice? Now that Harwell's gone, he and Scully sit atop the heap as my favorite game-callers. I guess they've given him a partner in the radio booth because he's getting up there in years, but godalmighty have I grown to enjoy his "crusty old grandpa" style. He calls flyballs very well too, none of this Sterling BS.

I've only heard Niehaus a few times but each time I wondered if the guy had developed narcolepsy.

The common Chan Ho Park picture looks awesome, but the video is significantly less impressive. Belcher absorbed the kick and tackled, while punching the whole time, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, Chan Ho Park's ninja attempt was completely futile and useless (and completely unmotivated).

Best baseball karate kick ever? I vote Izzy Alcantara, but to be honest, I don't know that many other examples, so I could be stacking the deck.

If I remember correctly, George Bell had a nice flying kick.

Izzy's was truly awesome.

I can't remember. Was Izzy the one who pre-emptively kicked the Catcher over, so that he woundn't be able to run him down while he was charging the Pitcher?

Yup. It's a model of forethought.

Dudes. Pat Corrales vs. Dave Stewart. Gawd I wish I had the video of that.

I adore Niehaus, too. But for as long as I can remember, he's always had a partner, whether it's on the radio or on TV.

Izzy's was truly awesome.

He was hitting for a 1.2 OPS here in Taiwan until he got kicked off the team. The rumour is either pot or throwing games, not sure. The Bill Pulsipher rumour was pot for sure.

I'm still pissed we didn't Es Lima time to come here, but Pete Munro is kicking a lot of ass.

I seem to recall a game from the early 90's where a fan ran onto the field and approached Randy Myers on the mound in a way that made it unclear what his intentions were. Myers did a round kick to the fan's head and the guy was pretty much KO'ed. Talk about a closer. Seriously though was the best kick I've ever seen a player deliver.

Wasn't Myers a legit black belt or something like?

A skinny guy v. fat guy battle can only end badly...

A skinny guy will just bounce right off the fat guy, but the fat guy will never catch him... better to choose five medium-sized skaters.

I still play Ice Hockey once in a while - I find all fat guys except one skinny guy to be the optimum mix, when done right.

I fixed the Chan Ho Park wiki page (the Belcher section). Guess what I added.
