AP: Mets’ Randolph apologizes for distraction

New York Mets manager Willie Randolph issued an apology Wednesday to team ownership, the club’s TV network and his players “for the unnecessary distraction” he created by suggesting he was portrayed in a different manner than white managers.
...
Before the Mets played the Braves on Wednesday, Randolph began by saying, “I just wrote down some notes I want to share with you guys.”

“First of all, I want to apologize to the Mets ownership, SNY and my team for the unnecessary distraction that I created, that I caused the last couple days,” he said. “I shouldn’t have said what I said. It was a mistake. As simple as that. It was a mistake.”
....
When asked if his opinion of the way he has been portrayed by SNY has changed, Randolph said “Yes. Yes. Again, those guys have a job to do. They get paid a lot of money to do their job. What I feel about that is really not important. At the time I voiced that opinion, again, that was out of frustration.”

Don't worry, Willie. Black people frequently make mistakes.

Lee (Godfather Ringtone) Mazzilli just blew his top and blamed the whole smegala on Ian O'Connor for not asking Randolph if it was on the record or not.

Wait, Willie Randolph is black?

I feel like Lee Mazzilli is one of the biggest phonies in baseball.

I would like to hear Ian O'Connor's response to Randolph's statement that he thought his comments were made off the record.

Yes, having Bonds on this team would just ruin the chemistry and clubhouse atmosphere.

That horse is dead, Chris.

So is Willie, thankfully.

Willie on the Pre Game Show:

I don't have a problem with criticism...but I like it to be accurate and truthful.

Accept me for who I am.

It wasn't like I was using the race card but as a black man in this country when things are being piled on you and there is a lot of negativity around you, that's what you say.

To sum up: If you criticize Willie then you are wrong and if you do it repeatedly then you are a racist. Personally, I just think that Willie needs to man up.

[Moises] Alou said that he initially felt tightness in the calf area during New York’s “Subway Series” against the cross-town rival Yankees last weekend.

The injury flared up while Alou was walking out to the field between the top and bottom of the third. Rather than risk further injury, Alou elected to leave the game.
...
The oft-injured Alou will fly back to New York on Thursday to undergo an MRI exam.

“Hopefully, it’s a couple-of-day thing,” Alou said. “It doesn’t feel good right now. Last time I had a calf (injury), I don’t think I went on the DL, but it took a few days (to heal).”
