AP: New M’s GM begins search for manager

New Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik says recently fired Milwaukee Brewers manager Ned Yost and former Seattle interim manager Jim Riggleman are two candidates to be Seattle’s new skipper in 2009.

Ned Yost? Ned Yost?!?!?!

Great. Milwaukee steals our original team, and then sabotages our current one…

Well, USSM said Riggleman took a bench coach job with the Nats. So while it is technically possible, I don't think he's really a candidate.

I'm not up on the exact current state of the Mariners, but if they're rebuilding then Yost may actually be a good candidate.

Yost isn't a good tactician and he'll play the wrong guys constantly and also misuse the bullpen, but if the GM tells him to, he'll play young players. So that's something.

they're also willing to listen to a Felix for Weeks trade.

Riggleman and Yost? The new GM is not off to a promising start. You think they'd be looking to find some up and coming AAA or AA manager.

Huh? This is like blaming someone if you go picking through their garbage, eat something, and get sick.

Willie Randolph interviewed for the Brewers job a few days ago, and said that Zduriencik was the one asking him all the questions. (Apparently Willie and Melvin are good friends, so Doug didn't need to ask much.) He was joking that he's the only person to interview for 2 jobs at the same time.

Wally Backman would be a good candidate for their bench, as would Ken Oberkfell.
