Denver Post: Tulo could be out until midseason

Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki told teammates today that he’s facing a 4-to-8 week absence after being diagnosed with a torn left quadriceps.

When reached today, Tulowitzki told The Denver Post he’s still unsure how long he will be sidelined. “I don’t know,” Tulowitzki said. “It’s obviously frustrating.”

Agent Paul Cohen confirmed to The Denver Post that Tulowitzki is facing a lengthy hiatus after injuring his leg charging a groundball on Tuesday night in San Francisco.

“It’s a complete tear, which obviously isn’t good news,” Cohen said. “They don’t believe surgery is necessary, that it will be self healing. But it’s not something where he can come back in two to three weeks.”

With Tulowitzki out, Clint Barmes, the man he replaced in 2006, is expected to take over the starting job.

“Best case scenario is six weeks. The realistic one is a few months,” agent Paul Cohen told The Associated Press on Thursday. “We’re hoping it’s a couple months, but we won’t know until they do further medical tests.”

Cohen said team doctors will have a better feel for a timeline next week after “massive swelling and bleeding” subside. “It’s a non-surgical tear, which could be a good thing.”

The injury is rare in baseball but is not uncommon in soccer players.

“He’s just so disappointed for his teammates and the fans,” Cohen said. “He just can’t believe it, really. It’s still sinking in.”

Ah Chris Nelson, the O's were suppose to draft him until Angelos overruled at the last second and ordered his people to take a college pitcher (Wade Townsend who never signed).

Currently, he's hitting .641 OPS in 100 ABs at AA.

Eh, might as well. I think Stewart would be a disaster at second, but as long as they aren't winning anything this year, why not take some chances.

They called up Jonathan Herrera, and had him playing second. That may have had more to do with how bad their second basemen have been.
