AP: Tigers pitcher Dontrelle Willis placed on 15-day disabled list because of hyperextended knee

Detroit Tigers left-hander Dontrelle Willis was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday after an MRI confirmed that he has a hyperextended right knee. Willis injured the knee while delivering a pitch in the first inning Friday night against the Chicago White Sox and minutes later was taken out of the game.

“We know he’s going to miss at least one start and we don’t want to take any chances with it,” Detroit general manager Dave Dombrowski said after a 7-0 loss to the White Sox on Saturday. “Really at this point, we can’t. It is a hyperextension, so hopefully after the 15 days he’ll be ready. But we’ll see.”
...
The Tigers will recall outfielder Ryan Raburn from Triple-A Toledo to fill the roster spot and later will bring up right-hander Armando Galarraga, also from Triple-A, to take Willis’ slot in the rotation.

A rotten break for Detroit, but I'm sure there's no panic yet. Coming into the weekend, they were only two and a half behind Cleveland. I wish some of the media would relax and not make their slow start the top story every day.

A rotten break for Detroit

Or possibly not, given D-Train's performance.

On the sidebar, it looked like he had hyperextended guts!

The longer Dontrelle is out the more he'll outperform his projection.

Can you place someone on the DL for sucking?

Do they have a "rest-of-bloated-contract"-day DL?

Sorry, Zito is first in line for this one, I think.

#5 - zonk:

The Mariners did it to Jeff Weaver last year, if you'll recall.

Funny thing was, he actually pitched far better when he came back from the "SUX0RZ DL."

That explains Carl Pavano.

Someone paid $19 for Dontrelle in my AL-only roto league. That person is insane. That is all.

I traded for him in my league. I needed pitchers and I thought he would improve. Apparently I'm a fool.

I think the Braves once placed Mark Wohlers on the DL for "inability to pitch."

I don't know what the official word was, but last year the Phillies put Adam Eaton on the DL with what a writer called "an ineffective right shoulder". Then they took him off again, since they didn't have anyone better than him anyway.
