AP: Twins place [Rondell] White, Cirillo on disabled list

The Minnesota Twins placed starting left fielder Rondell White and backup corner infielder Jeff Cirillo on the 15-day disabled list after Monday’s game against the New York Yankees.

Cirillo’s injury, a medial meniscus cartilage tear in his left knee, is more serious and will likely require arthroscopic surgery this week that should keep him out for about a month. He was Minnesota’s designated hitter for the season opener, but he complained during that game of soreness that persisted despite a cortisone shot the next day.
...
White got hurt in Chicago while skipping out of the dugout during warmups before Saturday’s game against the White Sox.

April 9 is the winner in the RonDL pool!
And while Cirillo may have thought Minnesota was close enough to Milwaukee that he could continue to benefit from its rejuvenative powers upon his career, it may not be so…

Skipping? He hurt himself skipping?

He got overly excited when he heard that hopscotch had been added to the team's workout regimen!!

White and Cirillo should both be placed on the career DL...

Well yeah, it was warm-ups you know. Did you expect him to just get on the field and start frolicking right away? He has a strict regimen that requires him to romp then caper then gambol then cavort then skip and if it is especially cold out carouse and prance before frolicking. My guess is that he didn’t properly gambol first.

No one does anymore. They used to ... back when it was a game.

White Sox, Indians, and Tiger fans everywhere are happy to see Jason Tyner and Mike Redmond in the lineup for the Twins everyday.

Rondell on the DL? Shocking. Sweeney and Griffey, you are on notice!

I find the Twins to be very annoying. They do a lot of the difficult things, like producing young pitching, very well. Then, they completely fail at some of the really easy things, such as realizing that Jason Tyner is far from being a starting quality outfielder. It's just irritating to watch, and it bugs me when they win because of that.

I'm less than thrilled with Jason Tyner being a significant part of the team, but it's important to note that they don't think of him as a starting quality outfielder. They brought him in to compete for a job as a backup outfielder. Two injuries later, he's probably going to be getting significant playing time for a couple weeks.

I'm more frustrated by Punto, who they did commit to as a starter, and plugged into the #2 spot in the lineup. They make plenty of bad lineup/roster decisions, but Tyner isn't even in my top 5 so far this year.

First Pete Rose, then Rondell White. Gambolling claims another victim...

Speaking of which, this brings me to my question from watching last night's game:

Why is Sidney Ponson pitching for them? Don't they have someone in A ball they could trot out?

They have to have someone better than Ponson in the organizaiton, right?

Why is playing Mike Redmond bad? He's a solid platoon player.

As Gleeman said, he's solid platoon. But, he's been starting at DH, and he's been starting against righties.

Matt Garza is neither old enough or gritty enough to pitch in April.

The kid's got some learning to do. I don't know what, I guess his changeup isn't outstanding or something, but I'm not Terry Ryan. At any rate, I expect Ponson to be the first one tossed out on his backside and Garza to be here around mid-May.

Regarding Tyner, they have no one behind Hunter to play CF. Punto filled in out there two years ago but he's a third baseman now and can't be relied on for that sort of thing anymore. (*sob* If there was ever a born utility guy... runs the bases, fields everywhere OK, takes a walk, but no, he's a freaking third baseman.)

I think they want White to be healthy and out there playing like it's September 06 again. Of course, that's a formula for 30 days of performance and becomes problematic when the season is longer than that. Kubel would be another option, but they were hoping to keep his glove out of sight whenever possible. (Last night's first inning double was an example of his limits in left.) Anyway, going forward expect Kubel against righties and Rabe against lefties.

> Why is Sidney Ponson pitching for them?

Keeps Garza's service time down while allowing him to polish his breaking stuff.
