AP: Twins reliever Neshek has partial tear in elbow

Pat Neshek was bracing for bad news about his right elbow, and that’s what he got. The Minnesota Twins placed their right-handed setup man on the 15-day disabled list Friday, after an MRI test revealed an acute partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in the sidearmer’s elbow.

Neshek will not be allowed to throw for a minimum of three months, which means the injury has effectively ended his season. The ulnar collateral ligament is the same ligament that pitchers have repaired when they undergo Tommy John replacement surgery.

Bummer. There are lots of good guys in baseball, but Neshek seems like one of the really good guys. Plus, he's fun to watch pitch.

NOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo!

Pat Neshek is the object of my one and only baseball man-crush. He went to my highschool, albeit a few years behind me. And I can't think of a single pitcher whose delivery and mound presence is more entertaining. He's also a vegan (like me), and I fear this and Prince Fielder's slow start will give herbivores a bad rap.

i wonder if those ugly mechanics would have anything to do with it. only a week after moylan from atlanta goes down with TJ

I don't know, but plenty of non-ugly mechanics pitchers break down, too.
However, I just saw Neshek's picture on his Wikipedia entry, and his arm looks like it is about to snap.

The last two Twins jerseys I bought were Liriano and Neshek. Both injured their elbows within 2 months. I will now start buying White Sox jerseys.

Do tendons and ligaments heal themselves? Somebody once told me that they're not really "live" tissue like a muscle and that they never really heal.

given his delivery, neshek should have his ucl replaced with a flexing titanium rod.

I'm a vegan, if anyone tries to connect Neshek's injury to his vegan diet they have probably never seen him pitch.

If it's any consolation, vegans already have a bad rap as far as I'm concerned.

Most teenage girls grow out of that phase.

Did he blow it out pitching or signing autographs? Seriously though, bad news. I like this guy a lot, as he's the most unrepentant baseball collecting dork in MLB history.

they are live but they are poorly vascularized and heal slowly and incompletely, if at all. If there is a tear, scar tissue will replace the torn tissue. Scar tissue has zero elasticity. IF the tear is complete, there is no chance they will fix themselves and surgery is required.

That sounds familiar, thanks.
