MLB.com: Buehrle tosses no-hitter

Mark Buehrle hurled the 16th no-hitter in White Sox history, coming within just one Sammy Sosa walk in the fifth inning of a perfect game, during a 6-0 victory over Texas before 25,390 at U.S. Cellular Field.

Buehrle had a stretch of 20 straight batters retired, dating back to his start last Wednesday against Oakland, before issuing the one-out walk to Sosa. Buehrle struck out eight in becoming the first White Sox pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Wilson Alvarez did so against the Orioles on Aug. 11, 1991. Buehrle faced the minimum of 27 hitters, as he picked off Sosa after the walk.

FOX: Rosenthal - Buehrle’s no-hitter comes at perfect time

I missed Bob Gibson's 1971 no-hitter in Pittsburgh by one day on both ends. My mom wouldn't let me go to night games on Saturdays because the bus service out of town to where I lived (which stopped a block away) was less frequent on weekend nights and she didn't want me walking home from the trolley stop 10 minutes up the hill at night. I went to Friday's game and Sunday's game but missed Saturday.

Big deal, you guys. My dad and grandfather were at Game 6 of the 1960 World Series. Sure, it was the World Series, but it was a 12-0 Yankees win to tie it up at 3-3. My grandfather and one of his friends from work got tickets to the 4 games at Forbes Field, and he was all excited to win the coin-flip to see Game 6, because there might not be a Game 7.

I was at the Cordova/Rincon 10 inning no-hitter at Three Rivers. Still have the ticket stub.

We were sitting in the 600 level, way way up, and my one friend went to get us beer and food and whatnot about the 5th inning. Well, he had recently lost about 30 lbs, and so his clothes were all baggy on him, plus he was a little inebriated. As he's walking back up the steps to our section, his shorts are falling down. By the time he got to us he was almost tripping, but he wasn't about to put down the beers.

Mark Smith hit a pinch HR to win it in the 10th.

well of course i watched the great 18 inning game 4 NLDS 2005 where roger clemens pitched 3 stellar scoreless innings on NO days rest for the W and chris burke hit the walk off homer.

and of course i was there at the infamous brad lidge/uncle albert game 5 disaster

and i went to WS game 3. It wasn't what you might could call a GOOD game, but there i was. and yes you COULD hear albert *(^&#$! pujols feet going around the basepaths.

but no question the most, the MOST electric game i ever went to was the last game of the 2004 season against colorado. it was so sold out the SCALPERS didn't have tickets. it is the only game i can think of where there asn't even ONE empty seat and they were all filled with screaming astros fans - the roof was SHUT and we was rocking the cas-Box. brandon backe was the last minute substitute for roger clemens who had, uh, a headache or something and brandon was NAILS.

sigh

it is too bad that the bullpen had only brad lidge - back when he was BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDD and damn miceli who singlehandledly lost us THREE playoff games.

Jason Tyner hitting a HR

You don't have to make things up, Will.

I swear on my life this happened. It was the first or second game of Spring Training in 2005. I can't remember if it was the game against the Blue Jays or Red Sox.

"I can't be the only one who saw Carl Everett break up Mike Mussina's no-hitter in the ninth inning. That was an ESPN Sunday Night Baseball special, wasn't it?"

Check post 62.

I saw a milestone that no one knew was a milestone at the time: The night Cal Ripken broke the record for HRs by a shortstop. Ernie Banks had held the record, but he hit about half of of them as a 1B, and no one was paying close attention. So at the park that night it was just another Cal HR.
I also was at one game -- can't get the link to post, but it's Yankees/Orioles, 4/30/1996 -- which at the time was the longest game, clock-wise, in AL history. We had my boss's seats, right behind the 1B coach's box, but the temp dropped 30 degrees by game-end and we watched the end from one of the Camden Yards bars. Check out Pettite's linescore -- maybe the worst "Bad Andy" ever.

I was also at Game 3 of the 1989 World Series. That was a crazy night.

Wait, a couple other games I was at but forgot...

Eddie Murray's 3000th hit
The first game since the 70's in which two players with over 500 HR's both homered

also saw Bonds hit #700.

ohmigawd

HOW could i forget watching wilfredo rodriguez cough up #70 to barry lamar youknowwho? it was the 9th inning stros were losing like 20-1 or something and barry lamar was up no outs no on and wilfredo didn't obey the walk that &*%! no matter when/what cuz he ain't gettin no homer in OUR house memo got sent out.

( of course throwing Himself a FB down the middle of the plate at ANY speed is really not real too good an idea you know what i'm saying)

all that walking barry lamar no matter what stuff was really the last straw for the guys respecting dierker.

- and of course i watched craig biggio break don baylor's unbreakable hitbypitch record. he grabbed the baseball, lifted it into the air and yelled - I AM THE HITTEST!!!!

The only semi-memorable game I saw was Pedro shutting out the Devil Rays in August 2004, and I only call it semi-memorable is because I thought there was a chance it would be his last career shutout. Unfortunately, he threw another one in 2005.

Mike Mussina's no-hitter in the ninth inning

A perfect game, even. One out to go. And I think Cone pitched that night for Boston and pitched very well. Yes, it was a Sunday night ESPNer in 2001, either the Sunday before Sept. 11, or the Sunday before that.
Jerry Hairston Sr., whose son was booted from the Burly no-no, broke up Milt Wilcox's bid for perfection with a two-out hit in the ninth early in the 1983 season.

My top 5 in person:
5) Mike Cameron's four-homer game
4) 1983 ASG at Comiskey (Fred Lynn's grand slam)
3) Sandberg game
2) Ozzie Smith vs. Niedenfuer
1) Disco Demolition

Best game I ever attended was game 4 (or maybe game 3? can't remember. Trot Nixon hit a walkoff homerun) of the 2003 ALDS, Red Sox against Oakland. Long, wild game.

Last year I went to a Pawsox game with a few friends. Great and cheap seats. We really wanted to see Willie Harris picked off because that's what he was great at when he was playing for the Red Sox. And it happened! very exciting.

Me, too. I thought everyone was stomping their feet.

I was 11 - walking along the upper deck and suddenly fell down. I literally thought I'd been stabbed (that's what growing up in Oakland will do for you).
