Arizona Republic: Padres rough up Webb, rout D-Backs

The San Diego Padres already were squarely in the Stephen Strasburg sweepstakes… and with games this week against Dan Haren and Brandon Webb, it looked like the Diamondbacks could further nudge them in that direction.

Instead, after two games at Petco Park, two days in which the Diamondbacks played nine innings of baseball knowing that a win would mean another game gained in the standings, they have come away with nothing but two losses for the dynamic duo in the desert, as Webb once dubbed them.

After Tuesday night’s 9-2 loss to the Padres, the bright side for the Diamondbacks is that their lead in the National League West remains at three games… Even if they salvage today’s series finale with Randy Johnson on the mound, dropping two games with their two best pitchers to one of baseball’s worst teams can be viewed as nothing less than a major letdown.
...
During their three-game skid, the Diamondbacks have just 12 hits in 90 at-bats, a .133 average, with six runs scored, 27 strikeouts and 12 walks.

This D’backs/Dodgers race is turning out just as bad as the NL Central Race of 2007.  “TAKE THE DIVISION FROM US!!  WE’RE BEGGING YOU”  “NO…YOU take it!”

12 walks? I believe Dunn has about 9 of them. Along with 1 of the 12 hits...
Dunn is who we thought he was... and so are the rest of the Dbacks...

I only hope Webby is OK. He was dropping his arm angle in the 3rd
The guys on bbtn were commenting on it even, noting how his sinker wasn't sinking
That's when the Padres really started hammering him

An injury to Webb would effectively kill the Dbacks season
If not the Dodgers, the Rockies would likely catch them
And Tracy Ringolsby would come around sounding like Charlie Manson

Lev - he was dropping his arm angle in the 1st and 2nd, too. Several balls in those earlier innings were pretty well tagged, as I recall. Particularly Headly's drive to deep CF. You could tell he wasn't right well before the 3rd. But what do you do? He has had starts like that before and then ended up with a solid, if not spectacular, outing. Couldn't find it last night. I was particularly struck by the number of change-ups he threw starting (I believe) in the third inning. He was quite fortunate that the Pads just missed (fouled off) several of his early changeups that should have been tatooed.

I actually was encouraged by his ball four changeup to A-Gon, despite it missing down. It was the first one he threw where he needed to. The others were belt-high or higher.

And where was the deuce? I confess I turned the game off in the third, so don't know what happened after that. Maybe he had no command of the curve, either? Just an awful night that I hope is not because of the line drive.

As for the lead-in - the Dodgers and Diamondbacks are Mac 'n Tosh - the old HB Goofy Gophers. "You first, my dear," and "But, no, no, no. It must be you who goes first!"

"Indubitably!"

MLB.com lists Sunday's starter as TBA.

Since they already show Davis for Friday and Haren for Saturday, whoever is updating the probable pitchers page is aware Petit is being skipped. So there is no reason for Sunday to show "TBA"......unless there is a problem. :(

Disregard previous post.

Webb is definitely starting Sunday.
