ATL Journal-Constitution: Chipper, Hudson hurt but Braves beat Marlins (RR)

Maybe Hampton REALLY IS going to return to action this time - that would explain the concurrent injuries to Chipper AND Hudson.  The universe is trying to figure out how to balance itself.

Chipper Jones and Tim Hudson, their best hitter and best pitcher, each was injured during the Braves’ 9-4 win against Florida at Dolphin Stadium, overshadowing a four-hit, three-RBI performance by rookie Gregor Blanco.

Jones strained his left hamstring crossing first base on a fourth-inning groundout, and Hudson (11-7) came out after six innings with tightness in his upper right forearm near his pitching elbow.

“We’ll see how Chipper is,” said manager Bobby Cox, whose Braves won the series 2-1. “Hudson, I think, will be fine.”

Jones will be reevaluated Friday before the Braves open a weekend series at Philadelphia. He said he hoped to miss only a “couple of games,” but couldn’t rule out a stint on the disabled list… Hudson said he could have stayed in if the game were closer, and didn’t think he would need to skip his next start.

If the Braves are smart — and when are they not? — they will recognize that they need to sell for the first time since 1990, when they traded Dale Murphy to the Phillies.

The MSM loves the Braves. The Braves aren't exactly a small-market team and they've are under .500 post-2005. What moves have they made that are so inspired recently?

Well, if post-2005 is the arbitrary cutoff of choice, then I can think of acquiring Soriano for HoRam and sending Renteria to the AL where he sucks again and getting Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez for him while having Escobar ready to step in at the postion and do well.

The Braves have made a lot of moves. Like most clubs, some of them have been good and some of them bad. The afterglow of their run of division persists though and they get credit for being better-run than they are.

AJC: Braves win battle, lose war.

Yeah, if you make the sample size small enough even ARod looks like a bum.

Small enough? Three years?

I saw Hampton walking around the dugout last night, and he even touched Hudson's elbow. They need to keep that man's mojo as far away from healthy people as they can.

Certainly small enough to overlook the success of fat slow catchers, wouldn't you agree?

Fiddlesticks.

The season's over. Give Reyes and Jurrjens a few more starts, then shut them down for the last few weeks. Trade Tex for a couple prospects.
