AZ Republic blog: Busy day in roster-move world

OF Conor Jackson placed on the disabled list with “general illness,” manager A.J. Hinch said.
...
Not sure what’s going on with Jackson. When I got to the ballpark on Saturday, one of his teammates said he looked deathly ill, but I haven’t been around the past couple of days. Apparently he’s been OK enough to pinch hit a couple of times in the past few games.

A thought that crossed my mind was that by DLing him, they would get a chance to run him out on a rehab assignment to get him straightened out offensively, but I’m told that he is “very sick,” and Hinch said that the club is going to run a “battery of tests, make sure that he’s fine.”

“Our medical team, we’re baffled a little bit by this,” Hinch said. “It’s been a long time and he’s never really gotten better. He’s shown signs of coming out of it and then it kind of relapses.”

He’s PATIENT ZERO for the coming flu mutation that will wipe us all out… I know it!

When they quarantine him, I'll be convinced that we've begun World War Z. Until then, I'll chill.

Is LHP Clay Zavada the evil version of LHP Clay Rapada? Or is LHP Clay Rapada the evil version of LHP Clay Zavada?

I believe the symptoms include irregularity (of getting on base), inability to operate on the mound (aka Jon Rauch disease), and sensitivity to left-handed pitching.

Judging by the roster members' symptoms, I think it may be time to upgrade this to at least a Level 4 Pandemic as it appears to be highly contagious.

#3 - obviously the entire team needs to be quarantined. Fortunately, judging by attendance, not many would notice.

This looks like the Fake DL to me. Clark and Petit are already on it. Jackson will probably have an overhauled swing and be hitting .300/.400/.530 for another team this time next year.

Exciting times. Zavada to the majors, and he deserves it. He's already the best left handed reliever in the organization. Augenstein has been very good in AA this year, it's great to see him get an opportunity to pitch in the majors. And Parra figures to get involved in the OF mix next year, might as well give him a taste of the majors...

Zavada has a goatee. Eeeeeevil fates are going to befall more D'back players, it appears.

Look at that evil eye he's giving the baseball in the linked photo!

The Evil One has already been sent down without appearing in a game:

The struggling Arizona Diamondbacks called up outfielder Gerardo Parra from Double-A Mobile and placed him in the starting lineup for Wednesday night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.
...
To make room on the roster, Arizona designated shortstop Josh Wilson for assignment and optioned reliever Clay Zavada to Mobile. Zavada was with the Diamondbacks for one day and did not appear in Tuesday night’s game.

At least he got that one day of service time.

The Evil One has returned! D'backs personnel better load up on their crucifixes, holy water, and similar accessories if they want to survive.

Right-hander Kyler Newby and left-hander Clay Zavada were recalled Thursday from Mobile. Right-hander Bryan Augenstein was optioned to Triple-A Reno.
