Does it seem odd to anyone that a Japanese team adopted the Classic-Sports-C as used by the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Reds, and no doubt other C-starting sports teams? I mean, it makes sense in some respects. In others, I'd expect to see Japan-native logos and concepts emerge.

Actually, in the last 10 years or so, Japanese teams have gotten much more original. When I first arrived in 1998, the Tokyo Giants looked exactly like the 80s San Francisco Giants, the Carp looked just like the 80s Reds, and the Dragons looked just like the 80s Dodgers.

One thing I've always found odd is how many Japanese teams seem to have their logos, original or not, done in the Latin alphabet. What percentage of people in Japan can read that alphabet?

Not really related at all, but I've just discovered Gaki no Tsukai in the past two weeks and absolutely love that show.

To our resident Japanese primates, is this representative of Japanese humour? or are they kind of odd balls?
Would I be considered a low brow boob for liking it?

I'd guess that it's pretty high. I know it's a lot higher than the percentage of Americans who could recognize any Japanese script characters.

I figured that was probably the case. It's true that in most countries more people can read English than can read foreign languages here. The alphabet was the thing that got me thinking, though.

Almost 100%. The alphabet is covered very early in elementary school, and specifically romanization (Japanese written in the Latin alphabet) is covered in the 4th grade. Tack on mandatory English classes in jr. high (mostly reading, rather than conversation), and just about everybody interested in baseball can read the logos and player names on the uniforms.

I'd say the dominant form of American humor is irony and satire, while the dominant form of comedy in Japan is slapstick. So, it's pretty representative, and you'd be thought no more low brow than if you liked the typical American/Canadian/British sitcom.
