BaseballRace.com - Beta Version

Christopher Falvey’s site enables you to watch any pennant race since 1901 as an animated… well, race. Includes this season which, surprisingly, I haven’t gotten around to watch. 1987 was fun, though.

If he would make it play the William Tell Overture during the race animation, it'd be golden.

You SOB! I guess 2003 is interesting too, for a different reason.

'56 NL and '64 NL. 3 teams within 2 games.

What do the asterisks next to the team names mean, and why do they keep turning green and red?

This is totally hypnotic. I could waste three hours on it.

daily win/loss king.

As far as I can tell, the name of a team is highlighted in green if it's in the lead and in red if it has been eliminated. The asterisk next to the name is highlighted in green if it won that day, red if it lost, and gray if it had a day off.

This is a really nice site, although the user interface would have been better if the view zoomed in on a range of win-loss records just big enough to contain all teams in the race instead of showing all the empty space for beginning or end of the entire season. Otherwise it's hard to appreciate that a 5 game lead late in the season is pretty insurmountable since it looks so small compared to 162 games.

How late is "late?"

1977 AL East. One of the most underrated pennant races in my lifetime.

Utterly awesome.

Thanks, Scott.

I love how the "elimination" line appears and that overtakes the stragglers, splattering them in place like bugs on a windshield!

I believe the appropriate response is John Smoltz.

I particularly enjoyed the August 2006 portion of the AL East race.

On tommorow's date...1972 AL East

Bos-74-62
Det-74-64
Bal-74-65
NYY-74-65

The Yankees never got any closer...and soon after I remember Michael Burke fluffing up his handsome turtleneck sweater for the last time...as if to ward off the oncoming anti-Irish, anti-freedom, anti-fun, firestorm of Steininterlocker.

1995 AL West... watch the Angels pull way ahead and then grind to a halt.

Quite cool, though I agree with ekogan that the scale dampens the drama somewhat.

The 1914 Boston Braves = Feitlebaum.
