Bill King misses Hall of Fame again

No King, no Skip Caray?  Are they serious?

In the Internet voting, the three broadcasters finishing ahead of King were Cincinnati’s Joe Nuxhall (19,547 votes), Montreal’s Jacques Doucet (10,282) and Toronto’s Tom Cheek (8,992).

The other seven candidates, selected by a Hall of Fame research committee, are Billy Berroa, Ken Coleman, Dizzy Dean, Lanny Frattare, Tony Kubek, Graham McNamee and Dave Van Horne.

Dizzy Dean? Seriously? Ken Coleman? Seriously?

Jesus Christ, the writers could have done a better.

Sad part is that he hasn't made the basketball nor the football hall of fame either. Damn shame as he was better in either of those sports than he was as a baseball announcer.

I hope you're referring to voters, and not the nominees, because Tom Cheek was about as nice a man as has ever walked the earth, and was the voice of the Blue Jays for EVERY game from their inception until June 3, 2004. For 27 years, he was the sound of Toronto baseball.

I'm hoping for a Canadian connection for the award this year. I'd love for Tom Cheek to get it, but if they stick with those who are still alive I'd go for Jacques Doucet as he still has a fair amount of support for a guy who's team moved away. Van Horne I enjoyed back when he covered Expos games and would be happy for him as well, but someone who is active is very unlikely to win.

It's not that these other guys aren't somehow deserving...but none are more deserving than Bill King. Bill King during a rain delay was really a sound to behold.

Final voting will be conducted by a 20-member electorate, including 15 past Frick Award recipients.

I would really like to know how this voting process works. I would guess that past Frick Award winners wouldn't have all that much opportunity to listen extensively to the broadcasts of these guys. Dean, for one, hasn't broadcast for well over 30 years. How would a "research committee" like this conduct its research, I wonder.

My guess is that it's pretty hard to get this award posthumously, if for no other reason than it's not very good TV not to have the guy whose pipes you're honoring using them for the acceptance speech.

My votes were for King, Skip Caray, and, as the handle implies, Vince Lloyd.

How they can pass up King is beyond me.

This reminds me that anyone who could have a conversation with or simply listen to Chip Caray and not want to punch him in the grill has restraint I will never understand. Just look at that ####### schmuck. How can any real person not see through that ########?

I'd still take Chip over Joe Buck every day and twice on Sundays, and I'm glad he's off most Braves broadcasts.

In Soviet Russia, the Hall of Fame misses Bill King. As does Shooty.

Actually, in Soviet Russia, Bill King misses Shooty, which surely warms his heart immensely.

Bill King was utterly fantastic. I still miss him, lots.

I am very disappointed by this news. Even more so, because every time I tried to vote on the site, I got an error message that my vote had been submitted and to wait for it to process. I don't think it ever worked.
