12. Jess Todd, RHP: Todd is a short, squat reliever acquired from the Cardinals, and one who reached the big leagues in short order, but his ceiling is probably as a seventh-, maybe eighth-inning set-up man.
13. Nick Weglarz, OF: Two years of non-performance have dropped him significantly, as a ton of walks can only get you so far. As a first baseman or left fielder, Weglarz needs to show more.
14. T.J. House, LHP: He was an over-slot lefty from 2008 who showed solid stuff in his full-season debut; he’s a good breakout candidate.
15. Jason Donald, SS: He’s always been a bit overrated, and profiles best as a nice utility type.

#s 10 and 12 were acquired in trade and four others were drafted in the last two years. Rondon and Weglarz (I think) are the only ones who have been there since 2008 opening day.

As I've mentioned a bunch of times in other threads, it's an illustration of how completely hopeless the Shapiro regime has been in the draft. Their 2007 draft has a pretty reasonable chance to produce zero major league ballplayers. Zero. None of the players on the above list are from the '07 draft, and no players from the Indians' draft that year are anywhere near the majors.

It's mind-boggling.

I assume there must be some, but how many drafts produce no major leaguers? Is it 10%? 1%? I'm thinking this is not something easily searched on the B-R draft pages, so I'm not going to bother.

I wouldn't give up on Beau Mills just yet, even though his '08 campaign was pretty brutal. Thompson's old for his levels, but he's got a chance as a utility infielder.

Much loser to 1%. There are about 150 player per draft that make the majors. It's pretty tough not to come up with one. I've looked at every draft from 1987-1999 and I don't think there is a single one from memory. A few that produced no positive value by WARP or WAR, but those still had a couple of cup of coffee types.

I'd say getting completely shut it very rare. And looking at that draft, it wouldn't surprise me if Beau Mills at least made a small appearance in the majors.

KG is flat wrong on weglarz. that kind of power potential, plus that kind of plate discipline makes a massive breakout pretty much assured. he might have to johnny gomes his way along, but great power is gonna come, even if it's yet to been displayed, and even if it's gonna take another 2-3 years to get there.

Not really; they graduated LaPorta, Huff, Crowe and Valbuena to the majors, and Adam Miller has left the rankings. It was a good looking system a year ago.

Of course, in that particular draft, the Indians had only one pick in the Top 135, which was spent on Beau Mills. I think if you look at other clubs' 2007 drafts and remove all their second-round, third-round and supplemental picks, you won't find many that look all that great.

Two of the top three above were drafted by the Indians, and five of the top 14. That's not at all bad, considering how many prospects they've acquired by trade (who naturally would crowd out homegrown prospects). The Indians have had pretty poor yields from the draft for basically the whole decade, but there are some signs of progress in recent years.

Is Josh Tomlin an extreme soft-tosser or something? He has very nice numbers, but doesn't make it here and was left exposed to the Rule 5.
