"In the 2003 MLB American League Championship Series, Yankee Aaron Boone hit a home run to win the series. In the aftermath on the field, Menefee did a quick interview with him and then turned to the camera and said: "Bret Boone, World Series Hero". By doing this, he managed to get two essential facts completely and utterly wrong in only five total words, a sportscasting record that exists to this day."
I put this passage in there in mid-December, and it got taken down by the Man on January 15.
Estrada, Felipe Lopez, Elijah Dukes, Willie Harris, Langerhans, Mackowiak, Aaron Boone. Plus Nick Johnson if he's healthy and Rule V'er Matt Whitney. I'd imagine most of these guys are out of options.
I'd say 80-90%.
Is Mike Piazza retired or just unable to find work?
I'll put my money on the square labeled "pretending to be retired/holding out for more money when the real point is to avoid Spring Training."
Didn't work out so bad for Michael Strahan.
It's tied by Tim McCarver's infamous comment on Brad Penny's fastball. "It's a Mark Wohlberg fastball: Catch me if you can." I think Menafee edges Tim out because the facts were more important, but I think Tim wins for sheer ridiculousness (as he always seems to do.)
Retire, do steroids when immune from tests, make a comeback.
Especially in the case of Double-B, this seems quite plausible.
Then there's always McCarver's gush of how apt it was the Benito Santiago got a game winning hit on Cinco de Mayo, forgetting that Santiago is Puerto Rican....
/Tim McCarver
They're bench players on a good team. They're starters on the Nats.
