Chicago Sun-Times: Extension snub irks Dye

Before the All-Star Break, [Jermaine Dye] watched teammate Mark Buehrle get a four-year, $56 million contract extension when the organization had insisted back in spring training that they wouldn’t talk contract with their free agents until after the season.

Dye then took note of general manager Ken Williams saying that the club would listen to any offers from current players.

So over the three-day break, Dye and his agent, Bob Bry, decided to take Williams up on that. What they were told in return didn’t exactly leave Dye feeling real good about his chances of staying on the South Side very much longer.

“I do want to stay here,’’ Dye said. ‘’I’ve always said that I’ve wanted to stay here. My agent went to them with offers before, and they said they didn’t want to do anything at this point and time, so… as a matter of fact, I know he e-mailed Kenny over the All-Star break and they just said right now they’re going to look how the team goes on this road trip and decide what happens.”

The first step to a contract extension is demonstrating why that contract shouldn't be with Charlotte.

Well Al German Die is all up set that Burly has gotten resigned for big $$ and he has not nor have I when they gave Burly his contract for Umpteen Million dollars I went in to see Mr Williams about an X Tension and he said to me Keefe its like this. You are with Chicago of the American League this week and it is a miracle that you are not currently with Pigeon Forge of the Middle Appalachian League. If you still have a locker in the Cell when we get back there a week from Monday consider that your extension. It made me think Al that I could be born to flush unseen and waist my sweetness on the dessert air as the poet says but here I am instead with my picture on Bowman cards and I feature in many a keeper league so if I ever go looking for my hearts desire again I wont look any firther then my own back yard.
