On Friday, Wilson again lauded the arrivals of Bradley, Guardado and Josh Hamilton and the growth of Ramon Vazquez and Jamey Wright
What does "growth" mean here? It's not like those are upcoming guys having breakout seasons. Vazquez is in his 8th season, and Jamey Wright's in his 13th.
Michael Young and Ian Kinsler said they saw no evidence that any members of last year's team were not fully invested in playing winning baseball. Both players acknowledged the clubhouse chemistry is better this season, but suggested it had more to do with record than personnel change.
Aha, saying generic things like that only gets you a paragraph, with no direct quotes. CJ Wilson is at least interesting.
Hat size.
In 2002, Vazquez had decent season (95 OPS+). In the following years his playing time decreased (rather significantly), and his production was nonexistent. Last season, Vazquez was pressed into full-time duty because of an injury to Blalock, but all he could muster was a 77 OPS+. It is the same story this season, except that Vazquez has a 131 OPS+ (he has even hit at least one game winning HR). He is also playing respectable defense at 3B. As a player, he must be on cloud 9; it must be like a dream come true. I am sure that this has affected his clubhouse presence, and perhaps this is what Wilson means by "growth".
"we appreciate it but, sheesh, son, you cudn't find the plate BEFORE you stuck your head in there"
