Cliff Floyd wants to end career playing for Marlins again

Set the controls for the heart of the sunshine state…

“I would love to come to the Marlins. You know how far we go back,’’ said Floyd, Florida’s left fielder from 1997 until July 2002.

Floyd, who lives outside Fort Lauderdale, played for the Chicago Cubs this season. He could provide the veteran leadership the Marlins have lacked the last two years. He also knows the style and personality of manager Fredi Gonzalez, who was Florida’s third-base coach from 1999- 2001.

“I would love the opportunity to come home, chill out and help Fredi win some ballgames,’’ said Floyd, an All-Star in 2001 when he hit .317 with 31 homers and 103 RBI. “But if I don’t get an opportunity to come here, hopefully I’ll get a good job that’ll give me an opportunity to play the outfield and DH.’’

I suspect that a city's "hominess" is directly proportionate to the amount of money its MLB team offers old Cornelius Clifford.

No, Cliff. You don't end your career by playing anywhere. You end your career by not playing.

Sheesh. I thought Roger Clemens was the only one who hadn't figured that out.

Hadn't you heard? Playing is the new retiring.

I just had a mental image of Bruce Froemming playing CF for Tampa Bay next year.

Where would he play? CF?

I think this is related to Jim Hendry telling Cliff his services would not be necessary next season.

as a free agent Floyd can wear any colour you like on his uniform next year.

Floyd's shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

I think he should finish up where he started ... with the Nationals!

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the players' way.

If he goes from the Cubs to the Marlins, Floyd will exchange a walk-on part in the war for a leading role in a cage.
