D-Backs’ Moorad resigns as CEO; Hall promoted (EV Tribune)

Diamondbacks general partner and chief executive officer Jeffrey Moorad resigned from the organization on Friday, and Derrick Hall was promoted to President and CEO.

As a parting gift, Moorad leaves behind Eric Byrnes ($22 million over the next two seasons AND a no-trade clause).

The Padres could always trade Peavy and Adrian Gonzales for Brynes.

Levski is probably the happiest man on earth right now! Congratulations D-Backs fans, your GM is no longer saddled with a completely stupid CEO!

Yeah, like the new CEO won't replace the entire current staff with his own people. I'm thinking Sabean will be available soon.

DePo getting fired because of Moorad would be ironic, considering he just got promoted.

Byrnes @ 2/$22 million isn't good, but look at an NBA contract lately? There are guys that I've never heard of in the NBA with horrific deals that make Byrnes' 2/22 look like a blue light special.

So at least some good came out of the mess in San Diego, then.

Time will tell on that one. I'm not exactly sanguine about the PR guy who was just promoted. This is addition by subtraction for the D-backs, but it's at least a year and a half too late. The damage has been done and there isn't any reason to think they're going to spend money to help mitigate it.

Condolences to Padres fans. Moorad's track record speaks for itself.

Eric Byrnes for Jake Peavy!

Derrick Hall is a huge upgrade over Moorad. This guy lives, eats and breathes Diamondbacks baseball. I'll post a little story from Diamondbacks Bullpen to illustrate.

Late last season my wife and I were able to go to a Dbacks game last second, only our second of the year due to having small kids. I got really good club seating off of stubhub and was pretty excited about the location and all the benefits like in seat dining.

Unfortunately we arrived late due to all the mechanics of getting the babysitter up to speed. Due to that late arrival and my unfamiliarity with club seating and our location, I had a miserable experience that in part included some bad service.

When I got home that night I wrote up a disgruntled post here. Within 30 minutes (11 pm on a Friday night) I got a personal e-mail from Derrick thanking me for my honesty, apologizing and asking if he could offer my family some free tickets to try to make up for it.

Only time will tell for sure, but I'm pretty confident he won't interfere in baseball decisions at the ruinious level Moorad did. Moorad's ego simply made him think he knew better than the baseball people paid to make those decisions.

Sounds good, ValueArb, but being customer-friendly doesn't always translate to on-field performance. Ask any Phillies fan from the Bill Giles era.

I don't think that was his implication at all.

My point was he's an excellent marketing guy who puts fans first. I hope that he doesn't think he can dabble in baseball decisions, and so far there is no evidence he will, he's a professional baseball marketing executive. Remember Moorad was also a minority owner with a huge ego from being an elite agent, and he really wanted to make a difference in the team's performance by putting his imprint on big personnel decisions. And he did, unfortunately not the kind of difference we wanted...

He's a marketing guy who has seen all the previous CEOs for the team feel that it is part of their job to dabble in big personnel decisions. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he interfered somewhat in big decisions.

It's been a short thread, but you sir just earned the "dumbest post of the thread" award. Bravo.

I know it's a complicated concept, so more than you can handle, but people quite often learn how to do the jobs they are promoted to by observing and learning from those who had the jobs previously. Just because you don't like the idea that it might be the case this time doesn't mean you should ignore the possibility.
