Dallas Morning News: Cowlishaw: Yankee Stadium is without equal

Cowlishaw temporarily abandons his “Around the Horn” buddies to opine on the final days of The House That Giambi Built…

They are throwing a big party in the Bronx this week, giving Yankee Stadium its final All-Star showcase. The shame of it is that there is no reason to say goodbye.

Some fans have a problem saying farewell to their heroes of the diamond or the gridiron. I have trouble saying so long to a stadium that has no need to undergo the wrecking ball.

Yes, a magnificent suite-filled palace will be opening right next door next April, I understand that. But Yankee Stadium has been one of this nation’s grandest sports facilities for 85 years.

It needs updating, not destroying.

I don't see the point of Around the Horn. PTI comes on straight afterwards and it is the same format basically. Talk about over kill...

Actually, PTI has two guys who actually LIKE sports on it. I can't really say that about Around the Horn.

As far as Yankee Stadium, I've been many a time, and the main reason I'm glad it's coming down is that unlike Wrigley or Fenway, it's a miserable place to watch a ballgame.

If I were a Yankee fan, I would probably love Yankee Stadium.

But I am not, and I think it's a dump. Good hot dogs, though. Nathan's >> Fenway Franks all day long.

#3 is right on. But believe it or not, the last hot dog I got at Yankee stadium was disgraceful. There was no way it was Nathan's, someone must have gotten a deal on store brand the week I was there.

Yeah, what the heck? My first trip to Yankee last month, and I was told to get the hot dog, and it was lukewarm on an average bun. disgrace. Give me a usinger hot dog anyday. The most impressive thing about Yankee is the intensity of the fans, otherwise it is a oversized dingy 70's stadium. What's the deal with everybody being shoehorned out the doors behind home plate? construction out of hand I guess past 3rd base to LF side.

I've been to Yankee stadium several times, as a non-fan. I see it as the Derek Jeter of ballparks - a good, solid place to watch a game, but nowhere near as good as some are making it out to be.

Actually, I'm nearly positive Yankee Stadium DOESN'T have Nathan's in the stands. I know Shea does.

My main problem with Yankee Stadium is exiting and entering and walking around, which is a nightmare. Oh yeah, and the lack of seating being noted as even close to normal and seeing as how it is so confusing, having some ushers to point you out and seat you, which were nowhere to be seen. Once I was in my seat, it was fine. Except the hot dogs sucking. And the hideous job they did shrinking the fences and refurbishing. (Although there can be some forgiveness there I suppose as all kinds of things were screwed up by our predecessors.) Other than that, it was fine.
