Dave Pallone: Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Yes Pete Rose

I come back from a one-way ticket to Polizzi-ville to find this sitting on my mesc?!

I had the chance to see both Bonds and Clemens play the game. For Bonds, he broke in with the Pirates in 1986. He was a skinny kid, but had more talent in his little finger than most players in the majors. He was hitting homeruns then, and continued to hit them (762) until he retired in 2007. He was something to watch, and he could play the game. If the accusation of him using performance enhancing drugs is true, do I believe he belongs in the Hall of Fame? No! Period! Using performance enhancing drugs does just what it says it suppose to do. Enhance your performance. For me, that’s cheating, and you should never be rewarded for cheating. That’s the chance you take when you cheat. If you don’t get caught, you prosper, if you do, you lose. Simple as that.

...Baseball’s Hall of Fame is a special place. It is a place for those who were the best in this great game of baseball. It’s a place for such greats like Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams and others. Is it a place for Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, or Pete Rose? Time will tell, but for me Pete Rose is the real deal. Nothing enhanced about that!!

Thanks for reading and remember,

Never Strike Out

Peace

No! Period!

You didn't use a period. Performance-enhancing punctuation should be investigated by Congress.

There is literally nothing which can be said about this topic that hasn't been said hundreds of times before. Having a former umpire (albeit one with a unique personal story) repeat his version of the dogma does not make it fresh.

When do we get to throw Pud Galvin out of the Hall?

I'd sure love to hear what Mr. Pallone thinks about Dave Concepcion, especially as relates to whether or not Concepcion belongs in the Hall.

It combines the worst of pre-BALCO Primer with the worst of post-BALCO Primer!

The only news here is that he supports Pete Rose, despite their shoving match.

Lifting weights enhances your performance too, no? I know that Palone sees a difference between these two methods of enhancing performance but what I would like to know from anyone who has this kind of venom towards PEDs is how is that line drawn. This is different from the, "it's against the rules" or the, "steroids are illegal" arguments. What is so offensive about enhancing your performance through a pill in addition to weight training and diet as opposed to just the weight training and diet?

Well, except for the greenies. And probably the steroids. And the Grecian Formula. But other than that, nuthin.

Maybe they could play bridge?

Just don't take any markers from Pete.

Thanks for keeping us abreast of The Situation.

Even my Plug-Ugly Irish pop who was adopted by a Mafia big-wigee would be disturbed by the idiotic highball-jinx going on down Seaside Heights.

Speaking of the Situation and his comrades in italics, Bill Simmons observed recently on his podcast that the girl on that show named J-WOWW has everything it takes to become a premier female star on the professional wrestling circuit and Simmons predicts that once the Jersey Shore ratings subside she will take her enormous talent into the Vince McMahon arena.
