Diamondbacks’ Byrnes out 4-8 weeks with broken hand

When Captain America throws his mighty shield...it freakin’ hurts!

Diamondbacks outfielder Eric Byrnes is expected to miss four to eight weeks after breaking the fifth metacarpal in his left hand when he was hit by a pitch in the second inning on Thursday night.

The Diamondbacks said Byrnes will require surgery after he was drilled with a 90 mph fastball by Texas right-hander Scott Feldman on a 1-2 pitch.

Byrnes, who was replaced in left field by Ryan Roberts, was hitting .216 with five home runs in 194 at-bats.

They weren't coming back from a 17 game deficit anyway.

I wonder how Levski feels about this?

IIRC, Levski was never a big fan of Byrnes and didn't like the contract extension from the moment it was given. Add to that the fact that Byrnes has been terrible this year, and I don't think even Levski is a big enough fanboy to think this team has a shot at the playoffs: I doubt he's very sad about it.

BTW, Marvel is bringing back Steve Rogers.

Check Levski's bank records to make sure he didn't order this hit.

Byrnes being injured is addition by subtraction. Whoever they stick out there has to hit better!

Yeah, but hand injuries tend to sap hitter's power, even when "healed". So think how Byrnes will hit when he gets back in late August.

How will the scrappy Byrnes recover from 90mph of Conte-provided heat? :)

Captain America? The dude looks more like Prince Adam.

They weren't coming back from a 17 game deficit anyway.

This could only improve their chances.
