Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny to have shoulder examined

Brad Penny, who extended his winless streak to eight starts in the Dodgers’ 12-7 loss to the Detroit Tigers today at Comerica Park, will return to Los Angeles on Sunday to get his right shoulder examined. Penny will likely undergo an MRI exam on Monday.

Penny complained of discomfort in his shoulder earlier this season, but said that he was able to make his last two starts free of pain. But he said he felt the pain return when warming up in the bullpen today.

“I knew I probably shouldn’t have gone out there,” Penny said.
