Doug Glanville - The Numbers Game (RR)

Because three-zero is a magic number hero…

The problem is, when you get traded, someone else on your new team probably already has your number. So you have to work it out. On the Sox, Nick Swisher was already wearing Griffey’s precious number “30.” To make matters worse, Nick had an entire fan club called “the Dirty 30.”

For my part, I didn’t leave Rollins empty-handed. I picked him up a Sony VAIO laptop for his sacrifice.

Oh, and I gave him advice, too. And considering that he’s the reigning National League Most Valuable Player, maybe I should ask for that laptop back.

Brilliant. This man should have a more regular column.

Has there been a more likable marginal talent in Major League baseball in the last 20 years than Glanville? I think he's actually probably too busy to write a column on a truly regular basis. He's got a bunch of business/technology ventures he's running.

I thought Griffey had been wearing #3 the last couple years? Maybe Glanville mentions that, but I never got why he changed because I thought the #30 was to honor his father. I think the first time he wore 3 was in the world baseball classic, maybe someone else had 30 during that tournament and he decided he liked 3 better and kept it with the Reds? Or maybe he'd already decided to wear 3.

How can you not love a guy who lobbied Hal Richman personally for better defensive ratings on his Strat cards?
