Eric Byrnes to Host XM Satellite Radio Show During MLB Off-Season

Jack Spector, come back to us...all is forgiven.

The popular Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Eric Byrnes will host a national talk radio show on XM Satellite Radio during Major League Baseball’s off-season, XM announced today.

The weekly, three-hour “Eric Byrnes Show” will premiere this Saturday at 9 am PT/ 12 noon ET exclusively on XM’s baseball talk radio channel MLB Home Plate (XM Channel 175). Byrnes’ show will air Saturdays until spring training. XM listeners across the country can hear Byrnes talk candidly about baseball and other sports, as well as music, politics, and whatever else pops up his radar each week.

..."Eric is a natural behind the microphone, and he’s a fantastic addition to our broadcast team,” said Kevin Straley, XM senior vice president of news, talk, and sports programming. “As a radio host, Eric’s got the passion of a fan and the perspective of a player who goes all-out every time he hits the field. We cover all things baseball 365 days a year on XM, and Eric is an ideal personality to keep fans informed and entertained during the off- season.”

I heard Byrnes featured in what was his weekly call-in to a Bay Area sports station (after he was traded to Arizona) - I thought I would listen to a minute of it, tops, but it was great.

Byrnes and Zito were awesome on that "Teammates" game show that ESPN had for about a minute.

Byrnes did a great sketch on the Fox broadcast before the Rockies/Diamondbacks matchup on the last weekend of the regular season. Unlike a lot of guys who are called "a natural" behind the mike, he really is. I have no doubt but that if he wants to pursue it after his playing days are over, he could have a very fine career in broadcasting.

this will end up badly. I can just feel it.
It is fitting though.
the dude has a lot to say.

Nah, I doubt this ends badly. There are some shows that I consider truly terrible on XM (the one hosted by Bob Dylan for example) and yet they seem to have some people out there that enjoy listening to them. It just boils down to the fact that XM has a TON of radio time to fill given the shear number of stations they have and if you have a pulse and some sort of draw then you can get a show there and keep it. Byrnes will be just fine on XM and there will be plenty of people that end up listening to the show and enjoying it.

I meant more along the line of, he will say something stupid, and get himself in trouble.

I'm somewhat interested in what he has to say about sports...about anything else, I couldn't care less. At least on the radio I don't have to look at his haircut.

I will not tolerate any suggestion that Bob Dylan's XM radio show is anything other than wonderful. He brings out some really obscure things and you can always tell how they influenced him, surprisingly.

I was very excited about the Dylan show when I first heard about it, and if anything it has exceeded my expectations. The music is always terrific; I love the fact that he plays a lot of things I've heard of but haven't actually heard. Bob himself is funny, informative and shows a tremendous generosity of spirit, having nice things to say about nearly everyone.

Last week he played "Moulty." What more could you want?

Well...by all means give him a hand!
