ESPN:  Kirkjian:  Weaver’s No-Hitter

In the divisional era (since 1969), there have been three no-hitters in which a run was scored by the losing team: Darryl Kile allowed one in his no-hitter in 1993, Joe Cowley in his in 1986, and Blue Moon Odom and Francisco Barrios in their combined no-hitter in 1976.

No love for Melido Perez in 1990?  I had a SWEET baseball card (Donruss, I think) of it.

I'm pretty sure you mean Andy Hawkins. And while I'm not sure, I think Kirkjian is referring to situations where the losing team scores a run, but the pitcher nonetheless wins the game. As opposed to ones like Hawkins', where the losing team scores a run (or four, god those were some bad Yankee teams) and the pitcher loses despite the no-no.

Perez no-hit the Yanks in a shortened game. Didn't give up a run, though.

Funny how many of these the Sox were in.

And he was pitching aganist Andy Hawkins, oddly enough. Even if Perez had gone all nine-innings, I don't it should count if you're facing a line-up that includes Bob Geren and Alvaro Espinoza.

I'm from Chicago and a White Sox fan, but I was at the Melido Perez game at Yankee Stadium. This was just 11 days after Hawkins' no-hitter loss. There couldn't have been more than 5,000 people in the park with the rain a constant threat. Lance Johnson hit his first MLB home run after some 500+ at bats George Brett style deep into the upper deck in RF. I was only 13, and at the park with my parents, two little brothers, grandmother and aunt, but I refused to let us leave until the game was officially called since the no hitter was on the line. I'm quite proud of my decision.

I keep reading this as "Weaver's No Hitler". Which, you have to agree, is kinda true!

Ever notice how you never see headlines that say, "Steve Garvey's No Hitler"? There's a reason for that.

You know who else is never called "No Hitler"?

Bob Geren could hit. But Espinoza was worth 2 holes in the lineup.

Hmm, well actually Geren didn't hit much in '90. Or any season besides '89. I remembered '89 as being more representative of his career. I think Frank Howard got a lot of credit for his performance. Then I think he was canned. Wonder why.
