ESPN: Nationals 1B Johnson to have injured wrist examined at Mayo Clinic

Nick Johnson’s anti-healing powers confound experts once again.

Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson will visit the Mayo Clinic on Monday to determine why his injured wrist is taking so long to heal.

The injury-prone Johnson missed the entire 2007 season because of a broken leg. He’s been on the disabled list since May 15 because of a torn tendon in his right wrist.

“He still has soreness. We’re going to get another opinion to make sure there’s nothing else we can do at this point,” Washington general manager Jim Bowden said before Saturday night’s game against Texas. “It’s discouraging that he’s not any better after all this time.”

Wrist injury, okay, but how do you explain the broken leg?

ESPN:
Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson will undergo surgery Tuesday on his injured right wrist and may not return this season.

"We'll know more tomorrow when they operate, but there's a possibility he might be out for the year," Nationals general manager Jim Bowden said before Monday night's game against the Angels.
...
Johnson will undergo the procedure Tuesday at the Mayo Clinic.

"They're going to go ahead and look and see what it is, and then we'll know more," said Bowden, who declined to offer a best-case scenario.

I know of only two players who've visited the Mayo Clinic during their careers. Godspeed, Nick Johnson.
