I think Rickey works for the A's. I don't think Reggie does. What about McGwire?
Marlins - Jeff Conine!
Dodgers - c'mon, you know Tommy Lasorda is going to weasel his way into getting one.
Nolan Ryan?
Athletics - Rickey and Reggie both candidates, but played a lot for other teams
How about A's career games and hits leader Campy Campaneris?
Interestingly, the only categories Jackson leads the A's in (even if limited to Oakland) is Ks and IBB. Either McGwire or Henderson (or both) top him in every other category. For Oakland performance, McGwire "deserves" it more than Jackson.
But we all know the correct answer is Canseco. :-)
Also, that was pretty early, I see -- Triplicate Girl hadn't yet become Duo Damsel. No Timber Wolf, Star Boy or Dream Girl yet, either, much less Insect Queen.
Good christ: Counting about 8 of the archives volumes that cover all of the early appearances that I can't afford, I think I own every damned Legion appearance as of last year -- something like 600 comics. How is it that your blog has never been brought to my attention before now?
That said, Mike The Met Piazza deserves it more than Robinson as a Los Angeles Dodger. He's the best hitter in franchise history. Yet if I know Dodger fans, they would prefer a statue of Steve The Padre Garvey over Piazza. They highly overrate Garvey's forearms.
Let's not force the statue issue.
I don't know; I do try to get the word out. There's actually a lot of active Legion stuff on the web; jump in, the water's fine.
Conine's return and savior role with the 2003 World Series team was poetic given his unceremonious dumping in favor of Darren Daulton during the 1997 run.
I'd be fine bronzing Carl Crawford if he logs 12-13 seasons of his 19-year HOF career in a Rays uniform.
Is that really possible?
Koufax is third in line for me, behind Vin Scully and Jackie Robinson.
And did Rob really just ask if the Diamondbacks can erect a randy johnson? Yeah, if they hire cuter ballgirls, I guess.
Or legal?
I clicked on this thread specifically to make that suggestion. Beaten to it, I guess, but yeah - he's referred to as Mr. Marlin and even ceremonially retired with the team.
I think Rich is right except for the part about Jackie Robinson being from Los Angeles. He was from Cairo, Georgia and raised in Pasadena.
Marlins - Steve Bartman
Rays - Kevin Stocker (hey, at least get a statue out of the deal!)
Nats - Youppi!
Rockies - Hampton/Neagle memorial(Never forget)
Seriously. This is kind of ridiculous. Let's build one of me while we're at it.
That said, there already is a statue at the Big A. An awful one, at that.
At current rates, I'd more expect a statue of Scioscia.
Wrinkled clothes seem to be a popular feature in statuary. Based on his likeness, it appears that Ernie Harwell, too, had no iron.
I'm a Marvel man, myself, so I've gotta say... Bouncing Boy? What the hell kind of crappy power is that? That would be my luck, I'd be hit by radioactive gamma rays and gain the ability to become really fat and bounce all over the place. I mean, I've already got the first part of that power...
I feel like I've seen that picture up there before though.
If you ask O's fans age 50 and older it's Brooksie; if you ask the younger generation, its Cal.
I say both; put Murray, F Robby and Cakes out there as well.
Amazing we can't seem to agree on a "no-brainer" selection for the A's or Angels or White Sox but the Orioles have at least 5 who immediately jump to mind as "no-brainers".
Pasadena isn't close enough to call it from Los Angeles?
Squirrel Girl...line one.
I do like the way Light Lass's costume lets you know what's what.
There's already one at Coors Field, too. It's generic enough that if they did decide to dedicate a statue to someone, they might not need to build a new one.
Squirrel Girl is an Omega level mutant.
65 of Hodges' 2071 games were with the Mets. He managed them for 4 years. That really disqualifies him from having a Dodgers statue?
Pasadena isn't close enough to call it from Los Angeles?
Of course it is, and not that it's all that relevant, but Robinson was a four sport star at UCLA as well.

Absolutely to all five of them, and I'd also add the Terrible Tempered Mr. Earl. It can be a group statue showing all five players trying to separate Weaver from Marty Springstead or Bill Haller.
Frank Thomas would be a no brainer for the White Sox. I'm surprised there's no Luke Appling, given the other guys they have.
Of course it isn't. He was born in another state and raised in a city that's not Los Angeles. It's not as if Pasadena doesn't have its own identity. Joe DiMaggio and Randy Johnson are from cities a short distance from Oakland (Martinez and Livermore) but I don't consider them to be from Oakland.
I lived in the Inland Empire for years and I can tell you that if Pasadena thinks it has an identity then it's sorely mistaken.
I want the three-headed Lowenstein/Roenicke/Ayala statue.

That's incredibly pedantic, Charlie O. Your examples are (intentionally?) really stupid ones, too. Pasadena is directly adjacent to Los Angeles. You can walk from Pasadena to LA in literally one minute. Whereas Martinez is a 40-minute drive away from Oakland, with a bunch of other municipalities (not to mention a couple of wilderness parks) in between. Same thing for Livermore.
Also, Jackie Robinson, as I imagine you know but are choosing to ignore, left Georgia as an infant. He literally had no memory of ever having set foot in Georgia. He was "from Georgia" in the same sense that Roger Clemens is "from Ohio" and John McCain is "from Panama."
Meanwhile, bronzing Dave Stieb in Toronto would not be as big a stretch as Josh Gibson in Washington.
I couldn't think of anyone that would be statued for the White Sox. Until I read the entry for the Rangers: Nolan Ryan. A good, simple design of a memorable moment, and I thought "Oh yeah, Robin Ventura!"
And on this rumor, bronze futures are up this morning.
Isn't there a statute of Stewart at the airport in San Fran? Hey, better than nothing!
because
Oh, c'mon. You just described Speedball (or maybe he's still called Penance), except for the "really fat" part ...
I'd tend to err on the side of having less statues than too many. If the Braves started putting up Bob Horner and Jeff Blauser statues, the whole exercise would seem pretty pointless.
Good thing the Chinese don't agree with you.
Well, the Babe Ruth Museum is only a short walk from Camden Yards. Ruth's formative years were in Baltimore, and his first OB team was the Baltimore Orioles of the International League. It's not as if he was just born there.
--
Apparently the Babe Ruth RH glove thing isn't a error. Apparently Cardinal Gibbons School for Boy (or wherever) didn't have any left-handed gloves, so the young Babe Ruth growing up in Baltimore had to use a RH glove. That's what the Camden Yards tour said, anyway. I think they are just trying to cover themselves.
I guess we see geography and hometowns differently, though I won't say your way is stupid -- just different than mine.
I know Jackie Robinson left Georgia as a child and that Pasadena is about ten miles from downtown Los Angeles. If he was born or raised in Los Angeles, I'd say he was from Los Angeles. But he wasn't so I don't.
And if takes you 40 minutes to get from Oakland to Martinez, you're taking the wrong roads.
LOLWUT
The As could have a statue of LaRussa with a bottle of gin in one hand and a syringe in the other.
I'm trying to figure out which is for the puppies.
Gene Autry and Michelle Carew. They are building a permanent Nick Adenhart memorial, no word if there will be a statue.
What county is Pasadena in? Los Angeles.
Which campus of UC is Robinson an alumnus? Los Angeles.
¿Después de morir, con quién vive Jackie Robinson? Los angeles.
On Google Maps, it says the drive time from Martinez to the Oakland Coliseum is 39 minutes (59 minutes in traffic). By contrast, it's 8 minutes from Pasadena to Dodger Stadium.
Maybe so, but that's a true story. I've seen plenty of pictures of Ruth in a righthander's glove, including a team picture that's in in Dan Daniel's 1948 biography of him.
