Not a BP subscriber, thanks. I'm assuming then he'd get close to $12 million in arb., since that's what his contract called for. If that's the case, he'll need to pitch a good deal better (or at least appear to) to have any chance of the White Sox going to arb. with him, so I don't think that provision brings much value to Chicago (although it is possible he pitches quite well).
I thought they traded Gary Majewski to get Osuna, signed him to a three year deal for a good amount of money, and then he immediately was hurt for two years.

The Sox re-acquired him later in the same year (one of my knocks on Kenny). I believe he was then traded with Rauch to Montreal/Washington. He's played a little for them.

The White Sox need somebody to play center field in 2006, though. I'd prefer it not be Jerry Owens. JRE, you mentioned in that Gonfalon Cubs thread that Jacque Jones is available -- I take it you consider him half of a center field platoon. Of course, with Anderson gone, he wouldn't have a platoon partner.

But that's not going to happen - he's getting offered three-year deals right now, and the White Sox aren't going for that.
That's why I suggested including Matos. He's nothing special, but is pretty decent defensively and not an embarrassment at the plate. From the Sox perspective, the difference between Anderson and Matos in 2006 (if any) is worth the upgrade from Uribe to Tejada.

I like Juan Uribe quite a bit. Tejada is a stud, and I agree that the White Sox would have to give up quite a bit to get him, but losing McCarthy... that's a step I wouldn't be prepared to make.

I don't think Williams would send McCarthy in a Tejada deal, because the Sox, even with an expanded payroll, have to be bumping up against their limit. That would also go against Williams' stated desire for cost certainty and raise the bargaining position of Garland and Contreras.
I think part of the reason you haven't seen Kenny trade McCarthy is because of his contract situation.
I think Tejada stays put in Baltimore all season.
My numbers show the White Sox '06 payroll (post-Vazquez deal) at about $77 million, and that's with a number of arbitration cases still pending (Crede, AJ, Garland, Mackowiak, Harris). This assumes that the reports about the White Sox getting $5 million from Arizona are correct (I've assumed it's $2.5 million in '06 and $2.5 million in '07).
By the way Joel the combination of Crede, AJ, Garland and Macko are gonna be at least $14 million. So the payroll will be around $90 million as we stand today. Adding Tejada and subtracting McCarthy and Uribe would put us at close to $100 million. Not gonna happen. Substituting Garland (7-8 million in arb) for McCarthy leaves the payroll around 92-93 million.

Boone was a given - when healthy, his offense wasn't horrid and they like his defense. Garko's likely to get eased in to first like Peralta was at shortstop last year, though I do fear they might want to trot Blake out to right until Gutierrez has fully paid his Buffalo dues. Especially now that it seems they're looking for Nomar to play the utility jack-of-all-trades, which is where I was hoping the RFK would wind up.
Still, though, if Vazquez was on the open market he would certainly command way more than a 2/20 MM contract. In order get a pitcher with the kind of risk level that the Sox are (sensibly) willing tolerate from a pitcher (no more than 3 years at 10 MM per) they had to give up a prospect. I find this an ingenious solution to the current economic climate for pitching. I salute Williams and the Sox management for this thinking. . . . and you all know that I don't throw a ton of kudos KW's way.
D-Backs have more moves
The amount of money included is not yet known, but a Diamondbacks source said it was "nominal" and "well less" than the $6 million still owed them by the New York Yankees in the trade that brought Vazquez here a year ago.

White Sox get $3M in Vazquez deal
The D-Backs agreed to send about $3 million to the Chicago White Sox as part of the trade for Young, Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez and right-handed reliever Luis Vizcaino.
"We would have preferred not to" include money, "but the cash is minimal," D-Backs managing partner Ken Kendrick said. "The most critical element is Chris Young."
The D-Backs in essence will ship one of the three yearly $3 million payments due from the New York Yankees when Vazquez was acquired in the Randy Johnson deal last winter, and it is believed the money will not be paid until 2007.
So basically the Dbacks will send the 2007 payment of $3m from NYY to CHA.
