ESPN/Reuters: Ex-Dodger Park signs one-year deal to return to L.A.

South Korean pitcher Chan Ho Park has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the player said on Friday.

The 34-year-old Park, a 13-year major league veteran, said on his Web site (Chanhopark61.com) he was looking forward to spring training with the team where he launched his major league career.

“The terms of the contract are similar to those of a rookie who is starting all over again, but the important thing is that I want to return and that I’m doing it with the team I missed,” Park said.

He joined the New York Mets in 2007 but pitched only four innings in one start and ended the season in the Houston Astros’ minor league system.

He's probably the definition of a replacement level pitcher now, but Dodger Stadium was absolutely electric when he pitched. He was a real source of pride for Koreans in LA. His stuff during the WBC gives me hope that he still has a bit of magic left. Barring that, least a good roundhouse kick...

In an alternate reality, rather than grooving that pitch for Cal Ripken, Park stuck it in his ear. Ripken died on the field. Park went on to a HOF career but was despised throughout baseball. He eventually redeemed himself in America's eyes by catching a North Korean missile, saving millions of west coast lives but sacrificing himself in the process.

I really believed I was seeing a Cy Young winner when Chan Ho first came up. I'll always wonder how much the Tatis game hurt him.

Park still has pretty good offspeed stuff but he doesn't have a good enough control of his fastball for it to be a quality pitch now that he throws it 88-90 rather than 93-95. I had relatively high hopes for him going into this season because he does have good breaking stuff but he needs a few more ticks on his fastball or better control of it to get major league hitters out.
