ESPN: Yanks fire Latin American scouts amid probe, official says

A Major League Baseball source said Friday that the New York Yankees decided to fire two scouts for taking kickbacks from Dominican prospects after being briefed by MLB investigators on the financial scandal and the role the men played in it.

The fired officials were identified as Carlos Rios, the Yankees director of Latin American scouting, and Ramon Valdivia, the team’s Dominican Republic scouting director. The two, who had been on leave, were terminated Thursday.

Why isn’t there more mainstream attention on this scandal?

Because A-Rod and The Captain are getting divorced from their respective wives.

Hmmmmmm...I wonder what could possibly be the reason that a scandal involving Latin American players having their money stolen is not generating more interest?

Because it involves Dominicans and who cares about them? They're barbarians anyway.

It scares me when kevin posts something I was going to post myself.

Yes. After she squeezes Mike Nadel's bicep.

I am personally shocked that gambling, gambling! is going on in this casino. Round up the usual suspects that are not white and from "other places".

My understanding is it is ultimately the teams having money stolen. The scouts pumped up what the signing bonuses would be, and then collected most of the difference from the players. This would seem to make the players accomplices, not victims.

In the meantime Baseball America is reporting that the Yankees have failed to sign first round draft pick Gerrit Cole. I didn't think it was worth submitting a thread on that with no explination yet as to why this happened (especially since the Nationals apparent no sign of Crow is more newsworthy) but I want to be the first Yankee fan to say that unless there's some sort of unreported injury I am furious about this. I'm still trying to convinve myself this isn't true. Has anyone heard any explination? There has to be a reason beyond money, right?

They think that they'll get better value for the pick in next year's draft?

There's a thread on it already. But the rumor is he told them he wanted to go to college and didn't want to negotiate at all.

It sucks and maybe the Yankees didn't do enough research on him prior to the draft, but I don't know what they could have done at this point.

This season is just one huge ###########.

Any time I agree with a kevin post, I have to stop and reflect for a minute to make sure I've thought things through.
