An inauspicious start, and a poor ending.
After another shaky outing on Friday night, Brandon Lyon has been taken out of the Diamondbacks’ closer role.
Lyon gave up four hits and two earned runs against the Reds as his ERA rose to 5.23 for the season.
Chad Qualls, who replaced Lyon in the game and preserved the win by striking out Jerry Hairston, Jr., will take over as closer. Qualls likely can’t pitch Saturday night after working three of the past four days. Tony Pena will get the call if Arizona is in a save situation in the ninth.
Jose Valverde, Arizona turns its lonely eyes to you. Woo woo woo.
