Ex-Yankees Irabu arrested for alleged assault

Only 20 mugs of beer? Frat ##### toad.

Former New York Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu was arrested Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a bartender after drinking 20 mugs of beer, a police official said.

Irabu, 39, became angered after his credit card was rejected. He then allegedly pushed the bartender against the wall, pulled his hair and smashed at least nine liquor bottles at a bar in Osaka, western Japan, a police official said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

The bartender sustained no injuries. Irabu paid the bill with another credit card.

The police official said Irabu admitted the assault.

I guess "former Expo" doesn't have the same ring to it.

I do the same thing when some jerk bartender tells me my credit card has been declined. Who can blame him?

I'm very disappointed to note that "Fat Toad" appears nowhere on his bbref page. And to think I used to like that site.

He still paid? After assaulting the bartender? That's outstanding.

I'm guessing he thought he was being deported when the guy told him, "Your Visa is no good." When the mixup was explained, he just chuckled and reached into his wallet. Laughs all around, a $100 tip, a story for Reader's Digest.

He's so bad even Japan wants to deport him?

Hey, Roy's brother paid off the bar with his jet-ski money after they smashed the place up. Irabu's presumably got more dough than those guys.

Not withstanding Quilvio's outstanding example, something about getting into a fight with your bartender and then paying the bill anyway strikes me as so Japanese that is almost parody

Well, I guess you can tell I didn't RTFA, or even all of the quoted piece. It would've been a pretty good joke, though. *thud*

How does this affect his HOF chances? I hear there is a character component that the votes take into account.

let's not let a little inconvenient fact interfere with the telling a funny story, Dr. M.

If I ever tell one, I won't.
