Fire Gibbons, for the love of God: It’s time

BTW...Euell Gibbons’ middle name was Theophilus...if only.

The problem for the Jays and their fans is that Gibby seems to be Hillenbrand’s mental equal. Shea was right—the ship was sinking, only the leak was too slow for anyone to notice and do something about it in the offseason, when it would have helped the most.

Like any band of underachievers the Jays can talk proudly about having finished second last season, but when it meant no playoffs, it meant next to nothing in terms of achievement for Gibbons and co. What we’re left with is this year’s step backwards, and not even a fight card to keep things interesting. From Gibby it’s all bluster, but no grit, for grit permeates a team, and I’m not sure that Gibbons has ever gotten through to the men he’s charged to lead. Ask Ted Lilly, who is off helping the Cubs despite an offer for the same money from a team that clearly needed him in Toronto.

While I do believe that Gibbons is lacking in a number of important areas -- dealing with malcontents and bullpen usage primary among them -- I don't see the Jays ditching him just yet.
He will likely be given a bit more rope due to the injuries to the club.

That said, I don't think he is the longterm solution in TO. Unfortunately, he signed a new contract in the spring so he's probably going to see the summer months, barring more seven game losing streaks.

They should bring The Rickey on as player-manager. The lineup cards alone would be beautiful Dadaist poetry.

I like Gibby.... BUT...

The Jays really stink right now. I watched the game last night and it was embarassing.

SOMETHING neds to be done and I think a mangerial shakeup is as good a start as any.
