FOX: Dodgers place opening day starter Kuroda on DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed opening day starter Hiroki Kuroda on the 15-day disabled list with a mild strain in a muscle near his left ribs.
...
Manager Joe Torre said the Japanese right-hander felt fine after his start but experienced tightness in his left side late in his side session in the bullpen on Wednesday.

He returned to Los Angeles where an MRI exam showed no structural damage. But Karoda felt the tightness again when he threw off the mound Friday and the decision was made to place him on the disabled list.

Left-hander Eric Stults was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to start against Arizona on Saturday.

Oh no!

James McDonald came apart in the third inning tonight. After breezing through the first two innings, he gave up a leadoff homer to Chris Young leading off the third. After retiring Cory Snyder, he walked John Garland and Felipe Lopez, hit Eric Byrnes, walked Stephen Drew and a run home, then a single to Conor Jackson...

Shower time.

The Dodgers have serious pitching problems. Billingsley's the only reliable guy while Kuroda's out.

Both LA teams should probably be considering Pedro

If the Diamondbacks are starting Cory Snyder, maybe I shouldn't be so worried about them.

There have been a lot of disaster starts already this season. Is it weird yet?

Kershaw looked pretty good yesterday: In five innings, he gave up two hits and four walks for a run against six strikeouts. Game Score: 61.
Whether he can do it consistently, we'll see - but he's got the skills to succeed.

Kershaw is going to be a stud -- just not at age 21. He threw over 100 pitches in five innings. And it was the Padres. I wouldn't count him as reliable yet.

Kuroda will be back soon, but the Dodgers still need another solid innings eater in that rotation.

Karoda
Interestingly, this means "Overwork," in Japanese...

After last October, I'll never feel sorry for the Dodgers again.

I'm also Eric Stult's number one fan if anyone is wondering.

Dude can hit too

Somebody has to be.

I like him, and have followed him for a long time, but I wouldn't bet on him becoming a major league regular. He's 29, and finally hit 100 major league innings pitched tonight. Still, I'm hoping that he can pitch well enough going forward that he can get a real shot at the fifth spot for some team - the Dodgers or some other team. Because with a few breaks he could be a useful player for a few years at least.

He looked quite good tonight. I was at the game, and Stults gave the team five great innings.
And his line drive, snagged by Drew, was the Dodgers' hardest hit ball until O-Dog's bomb.
