FOX: Rosenthal - Rockies will have clearer outlook after road trip

Latest edition of RoboNotes:

Earlier this week, the Rockies took a run at Orioles right-hander Jeremy Guthrie, offering infielder Clint Barmes, but the O’s had no interest in trading their best pitcher. Reds righty Bronson Arroyo and Nationals righty Tim Redding also are on the Rockies’ radar. Heck, the Rockies might even keep closer Brian Fuentes if they get back into this thing — or, at the very least, trade him for immediate help, not prospects.
...
The first-place Diamondbacks probably have made their biggest moves, acquiring reliever Jon Rauch and first baseman Tony Clark. The second-place Dodgers passed on acquiring CC Sabathia, Casey Blake and Jamey Carroll, a deal that could have won them the division. They expect righty Brad Penny back in about 10 days, but are still looking for a shortstop and late-inning relief help.
...
Don’t count on the Astros flipping newly acquired left-hander Randy Wolf before the deadline. Wolf attracted little interest before the Astros acquired him, which is why the Padres settled for a 26-year-old minor-league pitcher, Chad Reineke, in return.

If I'm a Rockies fan, I'm praying to whatever God, gods, or lack thereof I worship that they lose every game on this road trip.

Really? Barmes for Guthrie? I'm sure O'Dowd was selling Barmes as the second coming of Jesus Christ. And isn't Guthrie a Mormon? Maybe the Rockies are trying to diversify their clubhouse theism? Won't be surprised if O'Dowd offered Holliday and Rusch for Braun and Gallardo tomorrow... just to play it safe.

The second-place Dodgers passed on acquiring CC Sabathia, Casey Blake and Jamey Carroll, a deal that could have won them the division.
Carroll definitely would've been the difference maker here.

Brewers GM Doug Melvin on Sabathia, who is 4-0 with three complete games and a 1.36 ERA since moving to the NL: "He knows how to pitch — that's the thing that has surprised me."
What exactly did Melvin think he was getting in CC? Jason Neighborgall?

I understand what Melvin in trying to say in that CC is a pitcher and not a thrower but wouldn't you think that the Brewers front office was well aware of that before the trade? I'll give Doug a pass on this one as he has done a pretty good job rebuilding his club but it's still a pretty stupid thing to say.

Dan O'Dowd seems like the really annoying guy in your fantasy league who keeps proposing absurd trades that make no sense.

"Yo, Cash! It's Dan-O! How about Yorvit Torrealba and Ian Stewart for Robbie Cano and Mike Mussina? I know you totally need a catcher now with Posada out!"

Stupid comment by Melvin, but also stupid by Rosenthal to not point out how terrible Barmes is and what a laughable offer that was. Like the Orioles didn't do that trade solely because they love guthrie so much, barmes being a replacement-level player had nothing to do with it. (Guthrie is doing really well though, the Orioles should hang onto him even if someone better than Barmes (you know, like Aaron Miles or Craig Counsell) gets offered for him.)
