And the response was, for a guy who's tough to get out, he sure made a lot of them.
You underrate her ability to hypnotize herself into thinking objects are cupcakes.
RKD49: Law should stick to what he knows, making the doughnuts!
...
RKD49: The Mariners need to blow that team up, I didn't like Silva a 4 or 5, Bedard is a joke, 5 players for that guy? I wouldn't have given you 5 packs of gum for that waste of talent.... I would have fired Bavasi right there and the jerks that evalauated his act....You need to draft smart and sign solid free agents, build the minors up like you did in the 90's....Seattle is an awesome place to play, they deserve a great product....
[Comment From midnitewriter]
On-base plus slugging was first popularized in 1984 by John Thorn and Pete Palmer's book, The Hidden Game of Baseball.[2] The New York Times then began carrying the leaders in this statistic in its weekly "By the Numbers" box, a feature that continued for four years. Baseball journalist Peter Gammons used and evangelized the statistics, and other writers and broadcasters picked it up. The popularity of OPS gradually spread, and by 2004 it began appearing on Topps baseball cards
RKD49: ok and I should care because Peter Gammons made a stat famous...OPS is what slugging percentage and on base percentage together? That just proves my point,,,writers make up stats by which they judge players because they didn't play in the big leagues....Let me ask you a question, do you think Vin Scully knows more about baseball then some beat writer that covers the Twins for 10 years...Yup, Vin does, but the Twins sportwriter has a HOF vote and Vin doesn't....How stupid is the system.....OPS, GPS I do not think players who were and are great in their playing days should be reduced to numbers....
"As a statistic RBIs were not only misleading but dishonest. They depended on managerial control, a hitter's position in the batting order, park dimensions, and the success of his teammates in getting on base ahead of him. That left two measurable factors - on base average and power - by which to gauge the overall offensive worth of an individual."
-Branch Rickey, August 2, 1954, Life Magazine
I'm not sure when PRO+ became OPS+. Might simply have been a decision by Swan Forman. I don't recall Palmer and Thorn ever using the string OPS.
That's unfair. She was outperformed by Jennifer Connelly, but who else was clearly better than ROSIE?
Key members of Seattle's 2001 team who came through their system:
Edgar Martinez
Joel Pineiro (75 IP)
Jeff Nelson (after an interim w/ the Yankees)
