freep: Jones: Putting a mark on that great play

Since he can no longer get anybody out...that problematic male model of strange, Todd Jones....wants to be a stat dude.

But what if you could come up with a stat that would back your argument that you’d rather have Brandon Inge over almost anybody because of the defense he plays? What if you could combine his RBIs and the runs he saves from his defense so you could quantify just how good he really is?

We’re in Hockeytown, so you’ve heard of plus/minus on hockey lines. Well, the same kind of thing could be used for great plays.

Let’s say anybody on the team comes up with a game-saving play that truly saved a few runs. He’d get a plus for that one. Then let’s say for every two errors he’d get a minus. After all, if you give pluses, you have to give minuses to even it out.

So how do you decide a great play? Easy, you know when you see it.

Someone should hand Jones a copy of the fielding bible.

One Bible is good enough for Jones.
