Glavine leaves start with discomfort in shoulder

Can The Zopfic Theory be correct?! Southerner bails.

Tom Glavine felt discomfort in his pitching shoulder Sunday while batting during a rehabilitation start for Class AA Mississippi and left after two innings. The veteran pitcher said he felt it while swinging, not throwing.

“It was all from swinging, felt great before,” Glavine said in a text message.

The Braves said the 43-year-old left-hander would be evaluated after returning to Atlanta.

“I don’t know how bad it is, or if it’s serious at all,” Braves manager Bobby Cox said.

Glavine said he didn’t have a gut feeling about the severity, either. At the least, the setback could prevent him from making his planned season debut Saturday at Pittsburgh.

The Braves will probably go with either Jorge Campillo in a spot start, or bring up a pitcher already on the 40-man roster, like Reyes or Morton, rather than start Hanson's arbitation clock ticking...

Hanson couldn't even make it through 5 in his first triple A start... something about wasting a lot of pitches on strikeouts.

Baseball Reference has Derek Lowe listed as 6'6", 170 lbs. Uhh... yeah, unlikely. Yahoo has his weight as 230, which is actually plausible.

I don't Tommy Hanson is going to be called up ( esp given plans for him to be the SP for the Gwinett opener on 17th).
Think Campillo deserves a shot after his yeoman work last year. Reyes and Morton ( 6ip, 12Ks! ) are in line too.
Just how bad is that Charlotte team?

Is it bad that I had a "Tom Glavine is still playing???" moment when I saw this headline?

Growing up, Tom Glavine was one of my favorite pitchers to watch. As a Mets fan, this was all very confusing until we signed him.

curious, what weight should BB-reference use? I can understand Yahoo since it's more about reporting current stuff, but if for guys who are retired, like Aaron or Ruth what do you use?

(IMHO) weight should be tied to a season. Unlike height, it is not a constant for ballplayers.

I agree with this, but teams are notorious for fudging player sizes. Is there any sort of reliable resource for them? I get the feeling BB-Ref is good if you want to know what a player was when he broke into MLB, and not much else.
