Guillen: Cabrera wants to stay … or play for me

Miguel Cabrera wants to return to the Marlins, but if he gets traded he hopes it’s to the Chicago White Sox, according to one of his closest friends - White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen.

“He’d love to play for me,’’ Guillen said Monday. “Miguel to me is like my oldest kid. His wife and my wife are best friends.’’

Guillen understands baseball’s tampering rules, which prohibit managers from recruiting opposing players. But Guillen, who knows Cabrera from their native Venezuela, said he has spoken to the Marlins third baseman every day since the season ended, as he has done in past off-seasons.

Well, if he speaks with him every day, it must be O.K..

I've never said this before, but #3 and #4, your opinions are completely wrong and indefensible.

Anyway, if the Rockies got so far this season by devoting their clubhouse to Christianity, the White Sox might get good results by finding all the Santeria-practicing players they can. God works in mysterious ways.

There is just no way the Average Sox can afford the Venezuelan Buffet Cleaner.

Not in terms of talent, no. Cabrera may be interested in playing with the White Sox, but the White Sox simply don't have the pieces to trade for him.

He's lost 15 lbs. this offseason according to one report I read. Getting out of Florida is quite the motivator.

One would think, but there have been dumber trades made.

I am pro-Keefe.

Has MLB ever punished someone for tampering?

How is this tampering? Cabrera isn't a free agent.

Didn't Ted Turner get a suspension from Bowie Kuhn for tampering regarding Gary Matthews, Jr.'s dad?
