And that my friends, is why we don't play baseball in the wintertime.

I like the umpiring snowman outside Great american Ballpark in Cincy.

It's currently -10 degrees outside. It was -17 degrees when I got up to take the dog out this morning.

This is a California dog - I've never seen a dog run back to the house as fast as she did this morning.

EDIT: Hard to believe that spring training is only a few weeks away.

I was at the Front Row Fridays in Miller Park last Friday, only a few hours after we got about 5 inches of snow. We were taking the girlfriend's mom there to see the ballpark in wintertime. Sadly, though, the roof was closed and there was a tarp on the field. No snow to be seen.

I don't know why exactly that was, since I've been there before in the wintertime with the roof open and snow on the field and on the seats. The food was pretty good that day, though, so at least there was that.

Obviously. Chicago dogs take perverse pleasure in extending their walks to intolerable lengths in severe cold. They also find it hilarious parade about in downpours. Best keep her away from local dogs lest she get any ideas.

Give it time, sir, give it time. First basketball in April, then basketball in May, then basketball in late June, then Opening Day baseball in March, then college football in August, then the World Series in November, then the Super Bowl in February. Where there's a buck, there's a way.

I hate living in Minneapolis. It was 120 degrees warmer in California yesterday.

MN is cold this week. It was -38F at Babbitt Wednesday. It was -22 F in St Paul (both actual, not wind chill) when I dropped the kids at school this morning. And hey, look, a live webcam of the new park construction site. You'll want the coffee concession in April and Sept come 2010...

Edit: I initially made a typo on the Babbitt MN temp, but when I went to look I see they lost readings for much of the night. Check out the bottom of this page for the hourly readings. Yikes.

My dog hates the rain, and she hates going outside when it's less than about ten degrees outside.

She likes the snow, though.

I am grievously disappointed that none of Dodger Stadium, Angels Stadium, Petco Park, Chase Field, etc. weren't there.

Nie to see Montreal's Olympic Stadium represented. Last year I discovered that the floor of the stadium was made off-limits to all events (sporting and otherwise) from December through March due to snow and ice hazards. This stadium has a permanent roof!

According to a recent article here, the Stadium has now been cleared to stage events if the winter weather conditions are right. And they will eventually replace the "classic" roof with a fixed metal roof in order to actually use their covered stadium in the winter.

Well with the temperature at Home Run Derby headquarters currently at -7 degrees

I'm sorry, but for people my age, "Home Run Derby headquarters" is Wrigley Field, Los Angeles

I doubt it's -7 there (or, where it used to be)

I used to build my own models that were smaller, but scaled to size better than that.

We are supposed to be in single digits (F) in Raleigh tomorrow morning. I can't remember the last time we were in single digits.

We are supposed to be in single digits (F) in Raleigh tomorrow morning. I can't remember the last time we were in single digits.

Back in the last Ice Age when I was at Duke it actually went down to just above zero one day, and the guy who was by far the smartest person I knew down there (one of a cadre of math geniuses from Raleigh Broughton HS) was galavanting around in shorts, a T-shirt and a ski cap. He said it was all mind over matter, and since he was one of the smartest people I'd ever known, I had to believe him.
