Who else here thinks that "Home Run Derby" should be revived? If it can work in Hampton Roads/Norfolk, it can work for America.

(the TV show, not the overhyped, not well constructed but still sometimes fun All Star event)

I've seen those shows on I think ESPN classic and I found them pretty dull. I find the all-star derby to be pretty dull as well. There really is no tension or drama. It is some guy throwing meatballs up there and another guy hitting the hell out of it. It is like sitting next to the TV while playing DuckHunt. Sure it is fun for about a minute but after that it is pretty boring. Secondly in those shows the players had almost zero TV presence. For the most part they look like scared deer trapped in headlights. Modern are more likely to say even less and have a far less chance to say anything of value other than "Well, gramps threw me up that slow one and I'd done hit it hard".

David Wright should have learned his lesson: no more ####### home run derbies! The last time he was the runner-up in one of these things, he tanked the second half of the season. Sheesh. You want to raise money for a local high school? Write a damn check.

Grumble, grumble.

After the home run derby, David Wright took Mark Reynolds out to dinner.

Fun idea for a fundraiser -- and probably more interesting than having the six in a celebrity bowling tournament. Was kinda surprised to hear Wright described as the "crowd favorite"; perhaps that area hasn't received MASN yet.

Link seems to be dead. Where was this? Norfolk? VA Beach? Lots of Mets fans there, but that will change with the Tides no longer being a Mets affiliate.

We were there and posted a recap on our Nationals blog, We've Got Heart.

We'll have more pictures up soon. It was a great event.

Where was this? Norfolk? VA Beach?

It was at Grassfield High School in Chesapeake. Grassfield is a new school which draws students from Great Bridge(Cuddyer and Justin Upton) and Hickory (Wright). BJ Upton went to a private school in Chesapeake. Zimmerman and Reynolds are from Virginia Beach. I had tickets, but worked intervened and I wasn't able to go.
