Homers rule the day as three Twins, two Brewers go deep

Justin Morneau hit a grand slam, Scott Baker pitched into the ninth inning, and the Minnesota Twins completed a three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers with a 6-3 victory Sunday night.

Joe Mauer and Joe Crede also homered for Minnesota, which has scored 43 runs in its last four games. Baker (2-5) allowed seven hits and struck out six in 8 1/3 innings for his first win in three starts since May 8.

Mike Cameron hit a solo homer in the fourth, and Prince Fielder added a two-run shot in the ninth for the Brewers.

The HRs were flying out of the Homer-Dome so much, you’d have thought it was Yankee Stadium!

I think what we really want to know is what retarded thing did Steve Phuckups say this week?

I think the Twins will win the Central again.

Speaking of power, joe Mauer has a .844 SLG, 9 HR, and a .420 ISO in his first 95 PA coming into this game. No one, outside of Mr. Ruth, can keep up numbers like that for the entire season, but this isn't your typical hot streak. Mauer has a career .451 SLG, and 54 HR. He's hit nearly 20% of his career HR over the last 3+ weeks.

#6, Piazza may have far more taters, but Mauer's got him smoked in triples!

ESPN showed some thing about Bob Feller going into the military. Part of some Memorial Day tribute. And then Phillips went on a big thing about how today's players suck because the old timers fought wars, but they take steroids, and what happened to the game?

And he also got into an argument with Hershiser about whether Kubel wearing a sweater meant he was definitely unavailable for the game. Hershiser, the guy who played the game at the major league level, called him out for being a dope for saying he definitely wasn't available because of the sweater. He explained that sometimes people are just cold and prefer a sweater. Phillips couldn't quite comprehend that.

Those are the two things I picked up when my attempts to not listen to what was being said failed.

Yeah, this post made me laugh very hard, for, although I didn’t watch the game, I could just picture Phillips initiating an argument in this vein.

I've seen a couple of articles recently suggesting that Mauer's power increase is not for real. The reasoning: He isn't pulling the ball more, he's simply driving the ball out of the park the other way.

I don't quite get it. Mauer is obviously a great hitter; why isn't it likely that he's getting stronger as he gets older, and while he's not changing his approach at the plate, the fact that the ball is going farther isn't an accident.

Feller was good on the Nats-Orioles broadcast this afternoon. He didn't sound like an #######. Maybe he respects Palmer and doesn't know who Dibble is.

Mauer just turned 26 a month ago. I read an article, in 2006 I think, where Mauer was talking about how he was pretty sure he had stopped growing a couple of years previous, and then had recently grown another inch.

The exchange between Hershiser and Phillips was hilarious. Hershiser was obviously getting pissed, and Phillips' voice started getting all high pitched like Lou Costello.

It sounds like someone just admitted to taking growth hormones!

I think BP can fess up now that their Wieters projection was actually supposed to be Mauer...

Exactly. Anyone can pull the ball. Not as many hitters can consistently hit opposite field homeruns. Mauer is just a fantastic hitter.

If Mauer hit a friendlier home ballpark and didn't play such a stressful position this would have the makings of a run at .400.

Lefty. Great hitter. Abbreviated season.

Let's see if he can surpass Piazza's 1997 season. That was a heckuva year by Mike
