Houstonist: Interview: Roger Clemens

Woo-hoo..."big fat mess”.

You have stated that you never took HGH. However, your wife has admitted she took HGH and that that drug was provided by Brian McNamee. Are you saying that he was an adviser of yours and you let him give your wife a performance enhancing drug that you have never taken?

First, I did not “let” Brian McNamee inject my wife. As I stated in the congressional deposition, I was not at home when the incident took place. All you have to do is read — just go to the congressional website and spend some time reading.

Why do you believe that Mr. McNamee brought these allegations against you?

I believe I do know why he made the allegations, but I am holding on to that due to ongoing litigation.

From your perspective, please describe what a realistic, positive ending to this story would be. And, if I may follow up, what actions are you taking to see that this comes to pass?

Well, I’m hoping to be able to clear my name. If I’m given the opportunity, at least I’ll know I’ve done everything I could. All I can do is try to work through the legal system.

Move it to the porn thread.

I just read a book Charltan about Dr. Brinkley who spent most of the 1920's sewing goat glans inside men's scrotum. He continued to do this into the late 1930's making nearly one million dollars per year at the height of the depression.

This could have gone on indefinitely but he sued a man for defamation of character that worked for the AMA in a Texas court. Even with the home field advantage, Brinkley lost the suit, and all his credibility. He didn't exactly die a pauper, but he wasn't wealthy when he died.

And as I read about this trial, all I could think of was Roger Clemens.

That book is great.

Yeah, Clemens would have been so much better off if he had quietly gone away. I'm sure that it's his pursuit of this lawsuit that is ruining his credibility.

Maybe we should run a poll on the front page - Who do you consider a bigger jack ass now, Mark McGwire for going away quietly, or Roger Clemens who sued everyone?

Bigger jackass? My vote would go to the people who treated the accusation alone as conclusive evidence of guilt, and then pretended that the player's actions after the accusation were further evidence of guilt no matter what those actions were.
