Hughes looking, feeling good as RP

It’s easy to second-guess him because Brian Bruney came in and blew the lead—and got the win; nice scoring rules, MLB!—but Bruney’s been pretty brilliant lately. My problem with taking out Hughes is that every time you use him for just one easy inning, you make it that much harder to get him back into the rotation if the need arises. Why not use Hughes for two or three innings at a time? And if the “problem” is not enough work for the other relievers, here’s a radical idea: don’t carry so many relievers.

Totally agree.

Do the Yanks really need Tomko?

Bruney's been brilliant lately? He's looked like crap since coming off the DL.

Hughes, OTOH, has just been Philthy, and would probably be a better starter than Joba *right now*. Of course he's probably a better reliever than Joba would be too...

Absolutely, Aceves and Hughes can both pitch the 7th and 8th innings. It used to be, prime setup relievers would go two and three inninigs at a time. That time wasn't that long ago like, 3,4 years ago.

I also agree that Hughes would be better used for the time being in strategic long relief, as in being brought in to start the sixth or seventh in close games, or maybe even sooner, depending on how the starter is holding up and what his pitch count is. When Bruney returns to form this actually has the makings of a damn good bullpen, though I still would rather have Hughes as a fifth starter rather than Wang, unless Wang gets back to his old form before too long.

Wang at least got GB in his last start, although it did look like he was still leaving the sinker up. If he wasn't facing a AAA lineup he probably would have gotten lit up, but I still think he's getting a little better with each start.

Since this is the most recent Yankees thread I can find, we need to talk about Jesus Montero again. .319/.395/.542 in AA as a 19-year old after destroying A+ is pretty awesome. The EL as a whole is only hitting .257/.333/.386 and Trenton is a big pitchers park.

How many prospects have more potential as a hitter?

He's also walking more than he's whiffing in AA. yikes.

I do wonder though, if he was really so bad at C. why aren't the other teams just stealing 6+ times against him EVERY game?

Did McAllister get hurt?

Maybe. or they're just starting to limit his inning . and he walked / Ked a lot this game so maybe it's just a pitch count thing.

There was a rain delay in his last start. Probably just wanted him to get a couple innings on a throw day.
