Introducing the Reno Aces

“After receiving all the nominations, Reno Aces stood out because of its obvious association to the area and the connection it will create with the fans from the beginning,” said Stuart Katzoff, managing partner of the Aces.  “It has a nice ring to it.”

There were more than 50 submissions for the Reno Aces.

The team is the Triple A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks and will start playing in Reno for the 2009 season.

And they can have the colors red and black, just like the parent D'backs.

Well, at least they didn't take a divorce-related name, one of the other things Reno is famous for.

You know, it took me a while to associate it with cards/gambling. When I saw "Aces" I immediately thought Reno Air Races = Old WW2 Fighters = Fighter Aces...

Reno is very close to historic Virginia City. They could have chose a name that invokes the area's rich mining heritage. Either Nuggets or Lode.

As for the mascot for the Reno Aces, the obvious choice would be Gamblor.
