I have a two-word defense.
He's. Proven.
Try beating that logic with your fancy "numbers".
Now, Isringhausen might be toast. He has an injury history, he's old, he's obviously struggling. But that's not a question that statistics can answer at this time - it's a question for expert observation, to see what is qualitatively different, and if the problem is observable, whether it's fixable. LaRussa and Duncan apparently think he's ok. I'm not saying I'd trust them, as a fan, but I wouldn't throw a meaningless sample of data at them as if it were proof of something.
Reading the article, you can't help but feel bad for the guy. I've always been an Izzy fan, since I think he's been unfairly maligned in St. Louis.
This, combined with Edmonds's release just makes me sad about a couple of my all-time favorites.
